This is the thread that should include discussion about the content, beginning, ending, deaths (possible), and new characters in the book.

Spoilers may not be posted in another thread unless that thread has "(WARNING: SPOILERS)" in the title.

Well... frankly, I didn't like it as much as the previous book. For one thing, romantic that I am, with all of the pairing up, it read like teen-aged fan fiction.
I found it some how more predictable - look, Dumbledore's not doing well, what's going to happen to him! Malfoy looks evil, oh wait... he IS evil! I also missed the interaction with the other students, particularly Neville and Luna. Considering how well Rowling built up their characters last book, it was a surprise to see them fade into the background again.
Perhaps my expectations were too high. Not to say that I did not like the book - it's probably #3 on my HP list (after PoA and OoP) but some how... it's clearly a middle segment in a series, waiting for its end.

I too was kind of disappointed at not having Neville built up more in this book as he was in the last one. I was hoping that his strength of character in Order of the Phoenix would catapult him into a majory player. Oh well. And Snape is evil! Dumbledore was one of the purest souls in the books and Snape killed him--that's evil in *my* book

Evil, yes he is. We were always wondering if Snape was a double agent for the good guys or the baddies. Now we finally know. It was interesting to see Draco develop. Finally he wasn't just a punk or jerk, but wanted to do the right thing but could not see how it was possible. Can you belive Harry and Ginny though? Its just wierd. Its like a senior/junior in high schoolk dating a freshman, which happens way too often. And I don't think that it is ever a good idea.

It was a good set up book and we knew that was what it is suppopsed to be. Book 6 out of 7, therefore the sole purpose of book 6 is to make book 7 the best.

ALso, how in the world is Harry or anyone going to be ready to take on Voldermort!?! I mean really! Harry couldn't even get close to hexing Snape and Voldemort is in a whole different class! He has a tons of work to do. And I hope he gets there with work: smarts and creativity and not just lucky.

Does anyone have theories on who RAB is? I think it is Sirius's brother, Regulus. Though, I am not sure yet whether or not I think he is still alive...

Any other theories?

I've heard that theory too - and it would be fitting, I guess.

However, I'm afraid that I do believe in that Snape isn't evil.... yet. I think, and I do believe this, that Snape is still under Dumbledore's orders. In the end, Snape had to do this, whether through that vow, or because Dumbledore requested him to (remember that conversation with Hagrid?) Dumbledore is not easily fooled, I should think. Though I don't like him....and probably never will... I think we still need to wait on the final appearence of the professor before calling judgement.

well, I think Remus and Sirus were right when they were griulling Wormtail about his role in Potter's Parents death.
Wormtail: I had to! He would have killed me!
Sirus: Then you should have died!

If severus was good then he should have died. Tried to take out as many Death Eaters in the mean time.

And smile Smilybj, like a good book you have to read all the enterees to understand the thread :P

For great information on the evilness of Snape and the infamous RAB, read the new interview with JK Rowling on www.mugglenet.com The interview is *really* interesting and I was surprised at how much she shared. It was conducted the day after HBP came out, and the interviewers ask her lots of questions about it. Check it out!

I agree that RAB is Regulas. If you remember, there was, in OoP, a golden locket that could not be opened that they found when cleaning out Black's house.

I agree w/ River D and Milady. I think the next book will expound on Snape. I think he will in the end save Harry. That's one of my theories. I have many, lol!
I cried so bad when the phoenix was "lamenting" how sorrowful was that!?!
