Was wondering why everything was moving at a snail's pace, then checked and saw how many detectives were logged on.

Hmmmm....so I guess these are all subscribers, since Ben hired a Bouncer for Sleuthville when things got a bit too crowded.

Wow!

I thought the bouncer had quit for a better offer, but I tried to log in using an old (unsubbed) account of mine, and it would not let me...must be something else?

If you are older than so many days, it won't let you log on when high numbers of people are logged on. HOwever, anyone new or under this age can still log on. This was why I quoted under 300 experience, most of them are still fairly new. I will dig for the exact criteria and post it in a minute.

This is from the original post. I do think the maximum detectives allowed online increased though to 70.

You will not be allowed to login to the game if all three of the following conditions are true:

1) There are already 60 or more detectives logged in
2) Your detective is not currently subscribed
3) Your detective is older than 7 days

Yeah, the limit is 70 now. Geez, 136? That's a ton! Maybe herinteractive is down for maintenance and we're catching some overflow :P

Mmm not just during peak hour.

I was going to post something similar last night. At Sleuth 3 or 4am there were 63 people on (thats 'at least' double than normal for that time of day) and 42 of them were zero or under 100. Good for Sleuth if they all stay :)

Yes, it's a great game and I'm glad people are discovering it and (hopefully) appreciating it. However, I believe that in order to maintain the system, perform upgrades, etc. a solid subscription base is also needed, so I hope that these new people will be able to subscribe and therefore unlock more facets of the game for themselves. For those who choose not to subscribe, they are still more than welcome to walk the streets of Sleuthville and contribute to the community!

The 70 user threshold for blocking unsubbed players only applies to detectives who are more than 7 days old. We try not to interfere with true newbies who are still trying out the game.

Sorry about the slowness, we've been trying out different advertising campaigns for bringing in new users. We've found a couple options that work really well, but the problem is they tend to bring in lots of new users all at once, which as you notice makes the game less fun for everybody.

We'll try to adjust how we advertise to bring in those new users in more manageable chunks, and at times when we have less traffic.

Hopefully some of these new players will stay and subscribe and join agencies. I just hate it when they subscribe, join an agency, and then never log in again.

Ben, that little survey you did must've helped out a lot with learning what brings in new users. :)

Wonder if sleuth got some new users as a result of the Sleuth booth at the Left Coast Crime convention. Hope it went well for Sunny and Ben.
