Looking a gift horse in the mouth

I solved an Almost Impossible mystery.
I got a lot of experience points and even a skill point- very nice.
The special prize equipment wasn't compatible with my "wardrobe" so I decided to sell it.
Is that a typo or is really only worth $1ooo??? When I do a favor, which is at a much lower skill level, I can sell the item for 3200 or 4800 or something like that if I don't need the equipment.
I spent a fortune on bribes to finish this game and it hardly seems worth it now.
I hope I'm not the only one who feels this way.
I just don't see the point of doing this level if this is the return.

Nope not a typo. Hey, lucky you, the client didn't do it!! :D

People do, as far as I can tell, intially solve AI's for the balanced equipment they supply eg Coat of the Gentle Warrior 4 charm / 4 tough, and then once you've got what you've wanted out of that, it's basically for Experience Points, as (you know) you get 5000+ for one case. So it's the quickest way to rack up serious points.

The low cost *shrugs*. Imagine if you solved 12 AI's in a day and sold equipment worth $4000 each. Good in theory for us, but then nothing would be out of reach, and what would be the challenge? And hey that 5000+ XP per case is fairly important when you're trying to earn skill points.

Lots of people don't even bother with AI's unless they have to. I think... is it you R Anstett? who advises to do the next level down coz it's better reward for the effort involved... Iknow it was someone...

Best thing about Sleuth is, if you don't want to do the AI level next time round, you don't have to :D

There are several reasons to try the Almost Impossible cases.

First of all, they (like every other skill level) are worth DOUBLE the experience of the level below. At 5,120 XP, that's a pretty nice amount.

They are also the only way to access certain items in the game, like the item you found.

Your character will eventually come to a point where the only realistic way to gain skill points is by doing nothing but A.I. cases, and at their worst, it seems to take approximately 10 cases at that level to gain 1 point.

They are also worth the most fame for your agency (assuming you are in one to begin with).

Even if you sell the item, $1000 is about as high as case rewards get.

Lastly, all cases involved with villain hunting are at the A.I. level. So if you are interested in getting involved in those at any point, I strongly suggest getting your legs under you with that difficulty.

Hope I have been some form of help.

sam, i felt exactly the same way when i first did a couple ai's. to be honest, i stayed away from them up until this new villain hunt came along. i worked mostly on lower levels and built up my bank account. even now, doing the villain hunts i am going through way more money i am making. but the hunts are SO worth it for the rewards.

now that i have to solve the ai's for the hunts, i think i will probably do as many as i can, then spend a few days doing easier ones for money, then go back again to the ai's. i believe a week here and there of solving the lower cases just for money should keep me balanced.

that's my plan! but i wanted you to know you're not alone!

It isnt really a big deal to me, that I only get $1000 when I sell an item. I do the AI's for the experience points, and for the fame points in the agency. The way I see it, every AI I do, I sell the equipment I am rewarded with, since I have the gear I want, and that $1000 adds up. Plus, if I want more money, I just do a favor, and get the $4800. It really isnt a big deal :)

*wishes someone would gift him a horse*

A waaay-cool gangta talking jive horse. A jive horse named TrickPony, yo. I'd roll on to the set, let him drop a deuce on my enemies, then jam outta there like the wind. Wherefore art thou TrickPony?

I don't care about the mouth really.

The reason the AI prizes are worth less than favor prizes is because experienced detectives can crank through a lot more AI cases per day than the 3-4 favors they get a day. So, we limit the sell back value of those prizes to keep money tighter.
