In training some of the new people for Mojo we were having the never ending discussion about skills.
We where talking about when we first used a skill what it felt like.
So for the rest of Sleuthville...
What Skill made you go "COOL!"
What Skill made you go, "oh that's it?"

For me both awards go to the first two skills I ever got: Research and Judge of Character.
From the start Research has been my alltime favourite skill, and I was so glad I had chosen it from the very beginning :D
However, Judge of Character - *rolls eyes* - such a waste of skill points when just starting out, it's a wonder I ever managed to solve any cases. I imagined it would be this amazing skill to have, and then it just turned out to be completely useless for months - *lol*

Hum, first is either Lock Picking or Research, canīt decide. I also liked Underworld connections, on AI it made life a lot easier.
Judge of character was least liked and least used for me.

Research - "WOW!"
Judge of Character - "Oh my God. Why did I buy this garbage?"
Thread Analysis - "Cool!"
Interrogation - "When do I get to use this?"

I love research and lock picking. They are both amazing skills.
I don't have judge of character with this detective, but I had it with my old one, and didn't find it very useful.

Of all the faction skills I think pick pocketing sucks the most. That would be a waste of hard-earned skill points, unless one is so greedy to get money for every solved case.

I find judge of character very usefull, but it only became usefull much later in the game.
Now I really cant do without.

Pugilism turned out to be a substantial help in unclamming witnesses & suspects. I expected the effect would be a bit more dramatic though ("attempt to beat the crap out of him/her")

I started out with Lock Picking and Judge of Character (and another skill that I dont remember right now). I like lock picking a lot while judge of character is pretty useless, especially if you don't have Sweet talking or Interrogation skills *roll eyes*

I highly suggest getting lock picking, it's a huge help on harder cases where the suspect clams before you even ask a question. I've found stress detection and interrogation very helpful too.
