In training some of the new people for Mojo we were having the never ending discussion about skills.

We where talking about when we first used a skill what it felt like.

So for the rest of Sleuthville...

What Skill made you go "COOL!"
What Skill made you go, "oh that's it?"

I use joc with every question. This allows me to back out of questioning a suspect if the numbers are too low to avoid having them clam on me. If I really need an answer from that suspect, (and I know they're gonna clam) I can save the file and have someone in my agency of the opposite sex open it and question them for me.

well now i use research too ... but before i went up to the "really really hard" cases i didn't really need it ...

Pick Pocketing, because case after case my clients were almost *always* the murderer, and when I got it, i jumped crazily in the air and shouted loudly w/ all my might, lol.

Della - Can you expand on your statement "someone in my agency of the opposite sex open it and question them for me". Does it work better when a female questions a male? This peeked my curiousity!

The flirting skill increases the odds that a member of the opposite sex will respond to sweettalking/rulebending.

Yes, when a female detective questions a male suspect and vice versa (and has the flirting skill) the odds are much better for an answer as flirting gives you 20 extra points on your chances. Because I use joc with every suspect I know if there is a low, so-so, or high chance of getting an answer out of a suspect. Bear in mind that I have had a suspect clam on the first question with a joc of 111. It's rare, but it does happen.

So, if I have a female suspect with, for example, a joc of 75 for sweet talking and 56 for interrogation, I can save that file for one of the male members of my agency to open and question her if I need to verify her alibi because there is evidence that matches to her. If she's not desperately needed for expanding the suspect list or an alibi, I can just back out of questioning her to avoid clamming her up in case she is needed further into the case.

But, remember, Kimberly, that is only for detectives using Charming interview skills that have the Flirting skill as well.

Tough detectives who are subbed can get Pugilism. It works on both sexes, but has half the effect of Flirting.

Thanks. I've been trying to figure out if interrogations works on women and sweet talk on men because I do not have JoC. In fact, I don't have as many skills as I need but one day....

Both skills work on both sexes. But by adding flirting or pugilism, they work better. It's recommended that you focus on either charming OR tough skills until MUCH later in the game. Skills points get harder and harder to come by as your detective gains experience.
