Texan and I just received a phone from his sister, who lives near Houston, TX, saying "Hurricane Rita," is headed their way, so they're packing and leaving to find a safe place of shelter. All of Texan's family & a ton of friends lives in Houston, so please pray that God will protect them all from harm. Thankfully, our area, San Antonio, isn't in it's path, but we could face flooding as well as high winds. Thanks to all for your prayers.

Dionne, the evacuees from NO to Houston are now being evacuated out of Houston, some to Alabama, some further west in Texas. but they are on the move again

AZN, I'm so glad you made it to safety, and I'm so sorry that you've got family in Houston. We know what you're feeling. We've been calling throughout the day, talking to our family members, but it's hard to get through because the phone lines are so busy, & it will continue to get worse. I can't believe the traffic that's backed up for miles from Galveston towards Houston, because vehicles of evacuees have run out of gas and have caused a major jam. A lady called from her cell phone saying she only made it 10 miles in 8 hrs, so finally turned around and went back home. On the news awhile ago they are sending gasoline trucks to fill the cars low or out of gas, which is wonderful. Plus, they'll open the other lanes of oncoming traffic in order to help get the evacuees onward to their destinations. I can't help but wonder what next? As far New Orleans Dionne, the Governor said they're doing everything possible, so hopefully this time the folk will listen and get out of there. Thank you AZN for the best wishes. We're still thinking about packing a suitcase and leaving North, so I'll post one last reply, if we decide to do this. My prayers are with everyone involved with Rita.

Correction: My spouse mentioned going North early this morning, but he's saying now we should go West on I-10, which takes us away from it. I don't care, just so we're not in danger. Living in a mobile home scares me when the winds are high, & even though we're not near the eye of it, the outter edges will produce strong and high winds which can reach a long way.

Thank you jstkdn/freelancermountaineer...whew what a long name..hehe. It's 7:15pm, & according to the news this evening, the storm won't be as bad as anticipated for Galveston, or Houston, but the affects of it will be felt a long way. The storm is going to reach land, in the wee hours of morning, at Port Author, which could mean total distruction, but I pray not. We use to live near Port Author, several years ago, and said today how thankful we are that we're no longer there...wow. It's a beautiful place to live and to visit.

Well, I stayed on as long as I could this evening and I'm fixing to get off and go to bed. I'm so thankful that I'll have my comfortable bed to sleep in tonight, & not have to worry about our home being blown away, or flooded in the morning. However, I won't sleep a wink as I lay awake all night, watching the news and praying for our family and friends, as well as those who have shared in this thread, I will be praying for you all too. God bless and keep you safe.
