I am happy to announce that the latest expansion to Sleuth: Noir, the Nemesis Hunt, is officially live as of 23:00 server time on September 9th, 2012. That is a full hour AHEAD of the scheduled update time, so first off let me start by thanking Ben for everything he has done to enable this expansion from day 1. He has been very open and supportive in this endeavor, and none of this could have been done without him. So thank you, Ben.
Now, on to the good stuff... how do nemesis hunts work?
If you have captured 3 or more Arch-Villains (10 starting October 1st), you are able to start a Nemesis Hunt. The first step is to head to Shangri-La and talk to the Prince.
...and that is the only step I will give you.
Good luck everyone! There is a special achievement on the line for the first person to capture a Nemesis, so get to it...

It might not sound like it but this is a nemesis Q. Does Larry come around during VH's? Forgive me I was gone a long, long time and have a short, short memory :)

Sorry, Squirrel, maybe I didn't state my question eloquently enough. No, I don't mean that I'm looking for an excuse not to start one of these things. I'm simply asking just how many people are running into bugs/problems. Time to deal with a complicated hunt, I have. Time to deal with a bug-infested endeavour that people keep begging for help about and never get help with, I don't. Ergo, my questions.
Sorry,
B.

I've only had the one, on another account, no other bugs to speak of.

This nemesis hunt has really been an unfortunate addition to Sleuth. It had the potential of being new and enjoyable, and I am glad that it is for most people. Unfortunately for me, all it has done is solidified for me why I left Sleuth in the first place. Complete disregard for those that support the site.
Plagued with bugs from the start that remain unresolved...completely absent and now inactive individuals who launched the addition...and an admin who refuses to respond to an issue that goes unanswered. As a result, the nemesis hunt is an addition that not all paying players can partake in.
I had decided to subscribe again in September with renewed excitement and enjoyment for this game due to the addition of the nemesis hunt. Unfortunately for me, it seems as though admins decided the best approach to solving issues is to turn a blind eye, and just take the money and run. Had I known this would be the experience of coming back again, I wouldn't have bothered. Thank you very much for completely wasting my time and my money.
The only individual who at least made an attempt to look into matters at all is Secret Squirrel, who I thank for at least listening. This site is lucky to have you still around.
A burning Beef.

I want to butt in.
The enthusiasm in the creation of Nemesis is something I really do value. A player none different than any other uses his skills and invests his personal time out of work to create this game, which will probably be so much fun to play once finished. (If it ran smoothly everyone would be thanking him without an exception but the way I see it is that the time invested in this remains the same - it's huge, actually and that's what matters specifically in a game site where all the other work is again voluntarily put in by Squirrel.)
Talk about community. Personally I do not share in the feeling that Noir is a -feel in the blanks- community and strictly because -I think- some just cannot walk the talk. Not that any of my business except this Nemesis case: this hunt is something we all participate in.
Contrarily, however, none of us partook in its creation except the few who volunteered in beta-test.
It's clear as day that the testing phase wasn't long enough and the hunt's not finished. That given, it doesn't put the original game play in harm's way. Just a shift in perspective, pan out instead of close-up and it's all ok. You can play your 12 cases in your usual pace before the Nemesis expansion.
I'd expect a person to be overwhelmed by the excess amount of PM's he's been getting everyday for a work that was voluntary in nature to begin with. The least I could do is wait just as long as it took him to create it.
No one has to agree with me or anything. I am just trying to point out that it's really the expectations plus the lack of response we have had that caused disappointments.
The only thing that makes me sour about it, personally, is the fact that a general statement that the game is yet at a stage where bugs are very likely to occur was not made beforehand.
I suggested before that we could think of this as an addition still in progress and I am holding on to that view before more people leave only because of Nemesis.

I also want to add that I am not trying to make light of the costly commitment people have had to make to be able to play the game, in terms both money and, more importantly, time. I just think that it's completely another matter.
Lack of response from bug reports is really annoying. As Friday said earlier, I'd really appreciate it if they at least tried not to leave us in the dark about whether they are ever going to respond to reports and if yes, most likely when. It feels like talking to a wall.
You could at least let us know about the bug-report team(assuming there is one) so that we do not bother Secret Squirrel about it every time. We could PM to all of those people so the amount of work per person would be less. Not to mention people obviously check their PM's more frequently than they do the reports.

I totally agree with Eden. I'm sorry if you are having a problem Beef but I feel that the Nemesis Hunt is the best expansion Noir has had in a very long time, bugs and all. I'm sure that once all the bugs have fixed it will be a great pleasure to do a NH. Until then let us enjoy it as it is :-)
It is true that there doesn't seem to be much follow up on our bug reports but Serges, SS and Ben have responsibilities other than Noir so we should be patient and stop jumping down their throats and give them time. I'm sure we'll be hearing from them soon.

Turtledove, I agree that the Nemesis Hunt is the best expansion the site has had in a very long time. Unfortunately, when bugs go completely unresolved or not even acknowledged by Serges or Ben, such as the one I have now had for over a month and a half it goes beyond asking someone to be patient. The bug prevents players from even taking part in the expansion. Playing the same old same old while waiting around for a response and a resolution is not my idea of fairness.
I understand that people have other responsibilities in real life, but don't run a site or a game, add expansions, and not respond (in this public forum or through pm's) and hope that after a month and a half people will still be patient. Sorry if you disagree with my rant, but asking me to be patient and just sit on my ass waiting is unfair.
Enjoy the NH though. I am glad that at least some people can.

I hate the hourglass. I have asked for it to be removed. It's less than satisfactory you haven't at least been moved on from that mission. My hands are tied I'm not a code monkey. Did I say I hate the hourglass?
