Hello all.
I'm fairly new to Sleuth and I thought I might share a little hobby of mine with you all. Here's something for that sad moment when the mysteries of the day are all done.

Thousands lay up gold within this house,
but no man made it.
Spears past counting guard this house,
but no man wards it.
What is it?

The dead body of Cecil Breath was found at the bottom of the cliff. He was clothed in heavy hiking boots, mitts, several light jackets, and thick woolen trousers. Sid Shady recounted, "I returned to camp early to make dinner for the hunting party when I saw Cecil and Twyla Light arguing. They had been dating for several years and frequently had heated discussions. I didn't want to intrude so I hid behind a tree. Suddenly Cecil picked up a rock and delivered a fatal blow to Twyla's head. Just then Cecil saw me. He was so startled he turned and ran. He obviously forgot about the cliff and fell to his death." When the lab checked the rock that supposedly killed Twyla, it found Cecil's fingerprints on it. Shadow immediately ordered the arrest of Sid Shady. Why?

Cecil was wearing mitts. His fingerprint could only have gotten on the rock if Shady planted it there after the fact.

How can someone with mitts on leave fingerprints?

Sid Shady must've planted the evidence on the rock (I assume posthumously) and then put the mitts on and pushed him off. The guy certainly didn't pick up a rock with his bare hands, kill someone, then put on his mitts while fleeing.

I don't quite follow this one ...

Does that mean that Sid Shady killed Twyla Light and Cecil Breath and framed Cecil by planting his fingerprints on the rock?

If that's the case, does that mean that Sid Shady planted the prints, THEN put Cecil's mitts back on, THEN pushed his body over the cliff?

Unless Sid tricked Cecil into handling the rock while he was still alive, which seems unlikely if it was actually the rock that killed Twyla. "Umm ... do me a favour Cecil ... you wouldn't just pick up that blood covered rock for a minute would you? No, with your mitts off, stupid!"

Either Sid's an idiot or there's something else going on here : o )

A man, his wife, and their two sons come to a river they wish to cross. They find a rowboat on the river bank; however, the boat can only carry a maximum of 150 pounds at a time. Both the man and the woman weigh 145 pounds each. Their sons weight 75 pounds. How will they get across the river using the boat, and how many trips will it take?

First, the two sons row across. Then one son rows back. One of the parents rows across, and the other son rows back. Then the sons row across again, and one rows back. The second parent rows across, and the son on the far side rows back across to pick up his brother. The two sons make the last trip together, and the whole family is across and reunited. I think that's nine one-way trips. Can it be done in less?

It can be done in less, but it would involve some maiming ...
