October 24, 1938- Heimlich VonVIctor felt a chill run down his spine. Autumn always had that effect on him. He looked up at the multitude of colors adorning the trees and placed his hands in his coat pockets. The pungent aroma in the air told him that, somewhere, leaves were being burnt. He took a deep breath and looked down, to the place he had visited as many times as he could in the past two years. The cold hard stone hadn’t changed a bit, and never would. It would always be a testament to the man resting under it.

RICHARD CAMBRIDGE
FEBRUARY 10, 1892-
JUNE 15, 1936
“Justice for all. Above all else.”

He took a deep sigh. He never left anything behind, nor did he suspect that Richard would want anything left for him. He leaned down and placed his hand on the stone, “I’m doing alright Richard. Eric and I started up another agency. We’re doing it right this time, and Sergei is getting better at English every day. He’s even solving cases now; you wouldn’t believe how well he’s doing.”

“Excuse me, detective VonVictor?” a voice called behind him

Heim whirled around to find himself face to face with a young uniformed officer, “What do you want?” he demanded, “Can’t you see I’m in a cemetery?”

“Yes sir,” he responded, “and I’m terribly sorry to disturb you, but I’ve been asked to fetch you right away, it’s a matter of life and death!”

Heimlich let out a sigh, and leaned down to touch the stone again, “It never ends Richard, it never ends. I have to go now, but I’ll be back real soon.”

Molly lit a cigarette and watched the flurry of activity. Davis was tied to the chair, glaring balefully at everyone in the room.

"I've dealt with you before." she said suddenly, pointing a slim finger. "I know just who you are."

He swiveled his head to look at her, and grinned. "And I know just who you are. And once the Order finds out about your involvement in this, you'll have to look over your shoulder. You won't be safe until your dead. They don't take kindly to traitors."

"Oh please." Molly scoffed, smiling. "As charming as that is, I am not a member of the Order. Now how about you cooperate with us, and we'll let you run back to Hollis and tattle on me. You'd like to tell him what a bad girl I've been, right? Tell us what we want to know, and everyone gets what they want."

Although she didn't show it, she had been gripped by sudden unease. Friend or member, she'd be on the blacklist of the Order. Because she associated with them more so than her friends, her punishment would be far more severe. In essence, she had just laid her life on the line for those two little girls.

But she knew. She was a mother, and her daughter was far away from all of this.If they got her, she'd instruct her friends to tell her daughter that it was something like a car accident. Something easy to understand. As long as Jack Billings was kept far away, then her life could be perfect.

"Well, Davis?" she asked, returning from her thoughts. "What say you start talking?"

Marc watched in anger as Molly tried to get him to talk. When she would give up, someone else would step in and try. But the longer he sat there, the longer the lives of two little girl's were at stake. And the more Marc thought about it, the angrier he got. He was mad to begin with when Davis swiped his leg. Thankfully, it wasn't bad. It just needed a bandage and he would pull through.

Marc watched as Molly tried and tried to get him to talk and nothing she seemed to do would work.

"Forget this!" Marc shouted as he stood up. He walked up beside Davis and pulled out his pistol and started screaming. He couldn't take it anymore.

"You had better start talking you son of a bitch! Or so help me God I'll blow your f-" He was cut off by Joseph.

"MARC! STOP RIGHT NOW!" Joseph screamed.

Marc slowly holstered the pistol and Zeo pulled him to the side.

"Go step outside and cool off," Zeo said calmly. Marc knew why. He was about to shoot Davis in every non vital spot on his body until he spoke. That was going a bit too violent. As dark as Marc was, even pulling something like that, it wasn't in him to shoot until someone spoke.

Marc nodded and took a deep breath. He felt every eye watching him as he stormed out of the house to cool off.

As soon as he closed the door, Marc took out his pipe, filling it with his apple flavored tobacco. A few moments after he lit it, someone came out side and sat next to him.

Marc didn't look up to see who it was.

"So what's going on in there?" Marc asked.

Molly watched in disbelief, her mouth gaping open in surprise as Marc started screaming and whipped out his pistol.

"Oh no." she mouthed, just as Joseph Zeo interceded and ordered him outside. She looked at Davis, but the damage was done.

"You people are crazy! I'm not talking to your madmen! Kill me if you want! I don't care!" he screeched, and Molly sighed. She had been going about the slow process but it seemed necessary. He was an Order of Socrates member for a reason. They didn't respond well to threats, but rather logic.

"Damn it!" she hissed, and struck out at the wall, then gasped as pain spiked through her broken fingers. "Damn it, I forgot!"

Cradling her hand, she stalked over to Davis and leaned down to look at him eye-to-eye.

"It doesn't have to go like this." she said calmly. "You tell us what we want to know, you walk. Let me ask you something, Davis. Think they'd promote you if you turned me in? Because I will promise right now to go with you if you tell these people what they want to know, and where they can find their daughters. Think about it. You could easily climb in rank, ingratiate yourself. Hollis would want to have my head. YOU can give me to him. Look."

She took out her pistol and dropped it on the floor.

"Tell them where to find their kids IMMEDIATELY and I'll let you turn me in to Hollis himself."

She cast a glare at the others, warning them to not object. It was a desperate ploy, but it could both work and buy them time.

Davis bit his lip, clearly thinking this over. The light in his eyes glowed brightly with greed. He was seeing some sort of future of spoils and riches and titles.

"Alright, I'll talk." he said finally, and a collective sigh echoed throughout the room.

Molly set her mouth and stepped back, thinking over countless strategies and plans. The most important thing was to get them off to wherever they needed to go. Two children were in danger, the first thing to go out of the window was normal procedure.

"Your children have been taken the Inner Sanctum of the Order of Socrates. When I saw them last, they were still alive." Davis said sternly.

"When you saw them last?" Joseph shouted, "You son of a bitch! What are they doing to them!?"

"Calm down!" Heimlich ordered despite feeling the same exact way.

"How do we get to the Inner Sanctum?" Molly asked.

"You can't," Davis said with a smug smile, "but I can take you there."

"Let's go." Albert said, pulling his coat on, "Every second counts."

Davis let out a laugh. "Do you really think you can take on the entire order by yourself? Half of the city is in there!" he said.

Joseph leaned in and whispered to Heimlich, "Ask him why they needed blood."

Heimlich shook his head. "No," he whispered back, "we can't risk it. The more info we hold back from him the better."

"One last thing." Molly said, "Why did you attack us? Did you know we were searching for you?"

"Ha!" Davis scoffed, "I have nothing to fear from you. I was under orders from the order to take her out!" he finished pointing at Riza. "She lied to us and stole from us. Believe you me dear, if you go near the Inner Sanctum, your candle will be snuffed out before you can even step foot inside!"

Heimlich grabbed Davis tight by the shoulder. "Enough with the threats! Let's go!" he ordered.

***The Inner Sanctum***

"So this is the Inner Sanctum, huh?" Heimlich said, looking at a building and then to Davis. Davis nodded. "That's right... This is the place. I've been here before" Davis replied, looking at Heimlich.

As all the detectives and Davis entered the building, Davis pointed to a secret tunnel, hidden by a bookcase

Albert grabbed Davis by his shoulder and pushed him forward. "You first!" Albert said and Davis sighed. "Alright... Just because I'm your prisoner" Davis replied and began to enter the tunnel. All of the detectives followed, with Joseph and Vulkie behind Albert and Davis, providing light with their lighters.

Five minutes passed... Ten minutes passed.... 15 minutes passed.... It seemed like the tunnel didn't end. Until they reached a dead end.

"I swear to God, if you tricked us, I will shoot you!" Marc grunted and Davis shrieked. "It's not a trick, look... If you push that rock over there, the dead end disappears and a door is visible. When you pass through that door, you enter the Inner Sanctum" Davis replied and he pointed to a rock.

Joseph slammed his fist on the rock and the wall in front of the detectives began to tremble, as it went down. A door was shown.

"Davis, you first. Open the door" Vulkie ordered and Davis nodded.

Davis opened the door and the Inner Sanctum was shown, with a throne at the far end. For the rest, it seemed like no one was there.

"Edwards, Johnson! Get them!" Davis shouted and began to ran. Vulkie immediately followed, as the lights flickered on. It was almost spooky. "Mayor Hollis, where are you?" Davis shouted, desperately, before standing still in the middle of the room.

"Goodbye Davis. Thanks for the help" Vulkie said and took her gun out, as she aimed at Davis. Davis fainted and fell to the ground.

All the detectives shouted "NO" as Vulkie took aim. She carefully pulled the trigger and a click could be heard. "Pure bluf. We could need him still" Vulkie said...

"Marc, Riza, Molly and Albert. Look for clues. You may find something here in this room. Heimlich, Joseph, me and Anais are going to look for the girls!" Vulkie said and everyone split in groups.

As Vulkie looked around, she saw two doors. She carefully opened the left one, that held a stairwell going downwards. The other door was opened by Heimlich, that held a stairwell going up.

"Heimlich, come with me. We're going down. Joseph and Anais, you can go up. We both meet here when we're done" Vulkie said and began to walk down. Heimlich followed Vulkie.

"Heimlich... What did Thomas Lee tell you?" Vulkie asked, as she walked further. "I.... I can't tell..." Heimlich said. "I understand" Vulkie said and sighed.

As the stairwell ended, there was another door in front of them. As Vulkie opened the door, she saw many doors. "Must be the "prison" " Vulkie said and Heimlich nodded, taking a set of keys from a table. As Heimlich opened all the doors, the two detectives discovered that the girls weren't there. And Sergei wasn't also there.

"They must've escaped to somewhere..." Heimlich said and a tear flowed. "Don't worry Heim. We've still got some time..." Vulkie said and Heimlich straightened his back. "True... But how much do we have left?" Heimlich said and wondered.

As the two detectives went back to the Inner Sanctum, they heard their names shouted by Marc. "Heimlich, Vulkie, Joseph, Anais! Come over here! Molly has found something!" Marc shouted.

As Heimlich and Vulkie went to the rest of the detectives, they found Molly pointing at something drawn on the floor.

"It's blood" Albert said. "The word Iraq is shown and a sun... Any idea Henry?" Albert asked, looking at Heimlich...

"Davis gave us an address," Zeo swallowed hard as he sat next to Marc on the steps, "in exchange for Molly."

"What!?" Marc dropped his pipe. Loose tobacco leaves spilled all over the ground.

"The problem is, I'm even sure if he's telling the truth." Zeo said, his mind was crunching hard. "What if Davis is only giving us decoy location?"

"You want me to follow Davis and Molly?"

Zeo nodded slowly.

"You don't even have to ask." Marc got up and was about to get change into something that's even darker than himself.

Zeo held onto Marc's sleeves to pull him to a halt, while his gaze stayed on the steps. "Be careful Marc. If Davis gave us a false location, you and Molly would be our only hope in retrieving the kids." And if anything else happens to Josee, Zeo added in his mind, I wouldn't want to live either.

"You know I'm good with the shadows." Marc smiled and walked away.

"Time to make good on your promise!" Davis said from the shadows, and Molly immediately scuffed out the drawing so it was unrecognizable.

"I hope your memories are good." she said, and then raised her voice. "You're quite correct sir. Let us go. Perhaps on the way you can make some sort of daring story in which you chased me down at great personal risk and turned my traitorous vermin self into Hollis. I could contribute a bit, I'm quite good at stories."

She aimed a wink at her friends, and mouthed "good luck!" Then cheerily took Davis' arm and headed off, humming. Davis did a comical double-take, quite clearly taken aback. She spared another glance back and aimed a pointed look at Marc, then patted Davis' arm and did a little hop-skip.

"You know you're ridiculously cowardly and all." Molly said conversationally, her cheery voice echoing down the tunnel. "Did you actually faint back there?"

"Shut up!" Davis' voice growled.

"Oh, it's nothing to be ashamed over. I once had a cousin named Margie, fainted all over the place. Course she was, what was it, deficient or something...you should get that looked at."

"Shut up I said!" Davis said, sounding quite embarassed. Even in the tenseness of the situation, everyone had to manage a small smile.

"Are you blushing?"

"NO!"

"I think you're blushing...that looks like a blush to me!"

"It's...the dim lighting..."

"BLUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUSHING."

"SHUT UP, I SAID!"

And then their voices faded, and Molly and Davis were gone.

Marc watched in amazement as Molly was led down the hall. Moments later she disappeared and he could still hear Davis yelling. Marc knew it was his turn to act and he backed up slowly into the shadows and crept down the hallway in the darkness.

As he backed disappeared into the dark, he heard Vulkie ask, "Where the hell is Marc?!"

"Don't worry," Joseph said, "Marc knows what he is doing. He'll meet up with us soon enough."

"How can you be so sure?" Vulkie asked again.

"Trust me," Zeo said, "Marc....has his ways of doing things."

Marc followed followed the trail of Davis and Molly and he watched them disappear into a room. Quietly, he pulled out his revolver. He never knew when he was going to need it.

Through that door, there was something and he wasn't sure what. The rest of the gang had gone a different way in search of the girls.

Marc stepped out of the shadows for only a brief second to cross the hallway. He picked up his foot to kick open the door, and he hesitated.

"What if the children are in there?" Marc thought? "What if the moment that door flew off the hinges, guns started firing, and the children were killed?" He thought. If that happened, he would carry the burden of the death of two girls on his shoulders for the rest of his life. He couldn't do that. He had a soft spot for young kids.

He had to rethink his plan. He was about to go around the room when something caught his eye. He looked up and just above his head, was a vent shaft. Big enough for him to fit in. He pulled out his pocket knife, and unscrewed the vent.

He climbed up until he was able to crawl strait through the room. When he came to an opening, he looked in and saw Molly being interrogated by Davis. If the children were in there, he couldn't hear them. But then again, they would most likely be tied up with their mouths taped shut.

Either way, if Marc saved Molly, and he found the kids before the rest of the gang, he'd do all he can to get them back safe and alive.
