October 24, 1938- Heimlich VonVIctor felt a chill run down his spine. Autumn always had that effect on him. He looked up at the multitude of colors adorning the trees and placed his hands in his coat pockets. The pungent aroma in the air told him that, somewhere, leaves were being burnt. He took a deep breath and looked down, to the place he had visited as many times as he could in the past two years. The cold hard stone hadn’t changed a bit, and never would. It would always be a testament to the man resting under it.

“Justice for all. Above all else.”

He took a deep sigh. He never left anything behind, nor did he suspect that Richard would want anything left for him. He leaned down and placed his hand on the stone, “I’m doing alright Richard. Eric and I started up another agency. We’re doing it right this time, and Sergei is getting better at English every day. He’s even solving cases now; you wouldn’t believe how well he’s doing.”

“Excuse me, detective VonVictor?” a voice called behind him

Heim whirled around to find himself face to face with a young uniformed officer, “What do you want?” he demanded, “Can’t you see I’m in a cemetery?”

“Yes sir,” he responded, “and I’m terribly sorry to disturb you, but I’ve been asked to fetch you right away, it’s a matter of life and death!”

Heimlich let out a sigh, and leaned down to touch the stone again, “It never ends Richard, it never ends. I have to go now, but I’ll be back real soon.”

Molly gave a little laugh.

"Why Marc, darling. I didn't know you liked me enough to invite me to a ball!" she snickered at her own little joke. "I'm sure Pierce will be mad with jealousy but yes, I shall take one for the team and go to a formal affair with you. I think a deep blue dress will do, see that you find a matching cummerbund."

She wound the cord around her finger as she spoke. "I'll see if I can take a peek at a guest list. I'm quite excellent at the art of schmoozing up to the elite, having been one of their number once upon a time. It may make it less suspicious, us being there, if we can be friendly with other guests."

She nodded to herself. "Well, tell whatever other people you have working with you of the plan. Pierce will find a way in somehow, merely to keep an eye on me. But yes, I shall go. You don't need to reward me either, it'll be a welcome change from the legwork I've been doing recently. Shall we say you pick me up at 5:30?"

"Oh and Marc." she continued. "Do dress nicely. If you embarrass me I shall have to become very cross with you."

With that, she hung up.

Anais peeked into the bedroom where Josèe lay, sound asleep. Deciding it was safe, Anais quietly closed the door and picked up the phone, drawing out a slip of paper with a phone number written on it. Joseph's number.

The phone rang and rang and rang. Anais was about to give up when the phone was picked up. "Hello? Zeo speaking. Make it quick," a voice snapped.

Anais paused, confused. The voice on the other end sounded deeper than Joseph's usually did.

"Joseph?" she asked, letting the question sound in her voice.

"Who is this?" the voice snapped.

'Definitely not Joseph,' Anais thought to herself. Voice quavering, she spoke huskily, dropping her pitch a tad, "I- I don't-don't know who I am!" Anais gave a big sniff into the phone. "I just woke up and, and-" she blubbered, "I found a slip of paper on me! It said Joseph!" she gave yet another sniff as she smiled to herself, "It said Joseph and it has this phone number! I don't-I don't know who I am!" Anais started bawling.

"Hey! Calm down!" the deep voice snapped back.

"BUT I DON'T KNOW WHO I AM!" Anais continued to bawl, as Josèe stuck her head out of her room, looking anxious. Anais put her finger to her lips as she smiled at her niece and gave a wink. Josèe winked back, sat at Anais' feet and listened, stifling giggles.

"Lady! Calm down!" now the voice sounded worried. "Can you find your way to Central Park? The Sheep Meadow? Midnight. I'll meet you there. Ask someone for directions," the imposter ordered and hung up before Anais could respond.

"Mummy? What were you doing?" Josèe asked Anais, standing up.

"Taking care of some business, sweetie," Anais stooped to give Josèe a hug. "Now be a good girl and go back to bed, please? I need to make some phone calls."

"Can't I-" Josèe started to plead.

"No," Anais said in her most stern voice. "Bed."

"Ok, Mum," Josèe gave one last hug and went to her room, closing the door.

With Josèe safely in her room, Anais picked up the phone again, first dialing Vulkie and then Heimlich, filling them in on her conversation.

Then, she tried Joseph's number again.

"Hello?" a male voice that sounded like Joseph's answered.

"Do you have a cat? And if so, when did you get it?" Anais asked, knowing she would know who was on the other end from those two questions.

Zeo looked at the drunk cat in front of him while on the phone, "Yes you know I have a cat, and I found her at a back alley on my way home, um, right around when Vulkie was shot by the DAB, remember?" Zeo remembered vividly that day, when Anais was drunk and he couldn't help but place a kiss on her forehead... a kiss which woke her. 'Feeding the cat' was his excuse to leave her apartment then, although at the time he didn't actually own one. To cover his lie he actually took in a grey stray, that's how he got the Vodka-filled cat in front of him now.

Anais breathed a sign of relieve on the other end of the phone. Zeo asked her what was the matter, and Anais told him about the imposter.

"On this phone number?" Zeo was utterly surprised. He worked in the bureau long enough to know all about phone tapping and over taking telephone lines. He just couldn't believe it was happening to him.

"Yes, and he asked me to meet him at Central Park, The Sheep Meadow at midnight."

Zeo looked at his watch. That'd be less than 2 hours away. "Don't go anywhere." He hung up before Anais could respond, and was already at her door twenty minutes later.

After Zeo answered another few 'identification' questions at the door, he finally heard the sound of chains being removed and Anais peeking through the gap. Good girl, Zeo thought.

"'Don't go anywhere?' Where did you think I'd be going in the middle of the night while I'm looking after a little girl? YOUR little girl?" Anais said quietly as if someone was sleeping, "and you just came right over without asking if it was alright, and hanging up on me like that..."

Zeo pushed himself in, checked the corridor to make sure he wasn't being followed, and locked the door behind him. "I'm glad to see you too." Zeo whispered. Anais smiled and gave him a hug. Zeo went straight into business, "Only the Order of Socrate has the ability to over take my phone line like that. I'm sorry you got sucked into this."

"The Order of Socrates?" Anais inquired, with a what-have-you-gotten-yourself-into-this-time expression.

"Remember the artifacts thief operation I mentioned before? Possibly OS related, that and/or Greenhand." Zeo replied, flicking another cigarette to his mouth, which earned him a hard stare from Anais. Zeo sheepishly removed the stick from his lips.

Anais went on to tell Zeo that she had already called Vulkie and Heimlich about the strange incident.

"How did they respond?" Zeo asked, just then, he heard someone sneezing inside Josee's room.

"Josee!" Anais exclaimed, her arms crossed, "How many times do I have to tell to you go to bed? And put on a jacket if you do decide to snoop. It gets cold in the night."

The little girl opened her bed room door and smiled sheepishly. She had the same expression as Zeo did just a second ago when Anais caught him with a cigarette. "Hi mommy, hi daddy!"

October 29, 1938

Marc woke up with a start. It had been a good night's sleep. One of hist best nights since he returned hom from England from chasing Charles Craig (See Disillusioned Detectives). The ball started at 6 p.m. that night. Molly had taken him up on his offer of taking her with him. So they were going together. This was going to be the night that Marc and Molly would get a hold of O'Leary after the part was over. He didn't want to make a scene by taking him away during the main part of the party.

Marc had to run into the office that day for a few hours. He called Grace, his assistant and gave her the day off. Afterwards, he called Molly to inform her he would pick her up at 5:30 pm. No later, not earlier and that Pierce was more than welcome to come.

**5:00 pm**

Marc returned home to get ready for the ball. He devised a plan just incase there was a guest list. He would give the gaurd with a list, a ridiculous name that wasn't even on there. He would make up some story that he and his "wife" was invited personally by O'Leary. If the man objected about the name not being on the list, he would say something like, "Do you to explain as you are getting fired why we were not able to come in? All because our names were not on the list?". The man would be sure to let them in. From there, Marc and Molly would keep an eye on O'Leary. It was the perfect plan.

Marc showered, shaved, cleaned up. He put on one of his best suits; dark gray double breasted suit, shined black dress shoes, and a black fedora with a gray band going around the hat.

At 5:12 p.m. Marc arrived at Molly's place. He walked up to the door and rang the door bell. He heard foot steps stop at the door.

Pierce cracked open the door, one hand on his gun but he relaxed when he saw Marc.

"Come on in" he grunted, and Marc did so just as Molly came around the corner.

"Oh hello there." she said warmly, and then twirled in her new dress. "What to you think? It's that Chanel womans!"

The bottom of the dress, which flared out somewhere around her hips, was a cheery mass of tulle and fringe beads that reached all the way to her smart kitten heels. Her red hair was in perfect Marcel waves that framed her face and ran stubbornly down her back, despite the days latest fashions. She would take a page from the book of Olive Borden and Lillian Gish, thank you!

"Let us go to this party, Marc." Molly's attentions already diverted to other things. "There are a few guests in attendance that I know, this may help us. I hope you have a plan for getting through on the guest list?"

She shrugged on a white mink and motioned for him to follow out the door. "Of course, perhaps I ought to do the talking. I'm quite good at it, I daresay. Getting out of sticky situations. Not talking in general."

Presently they loaded themselves into her town car and Pierce pulled out into traffic, bound for O'Leary's snazzy event.

Marc couldn't take his eyes of Molly the whole ride to the party. It was a short ride to the party. As they got out of the car, they could see the guests arriving as well. "This is going to be good," Marc thought to himself.

"What's your plan?" Molly asked him quietly as they approached the door. In front of the door was a large man in a suit similar to Marc's holding a guest list.

"Names?" He asked.

"I'm Giovanni Pallini, Duke of Lecara Friddi, Sicily. And this here is my wife, Maria Pallini, Dutchess of Lecara Friddi, Sicily. We've been invited by a Mr. O'Leary." Marc said in an authentic Sicilian accent.

"I'm sorry Mr....Pallini? You're names aren't on the list..I'm afraid I can't let you in.."

"What?! You can't let me in? I was invited by him personally and you can't let me in all because my name isn't on a list?! Fine! You will be explaining to him why I wasn't able to attend tis.....tis...gatering!" Marc yelled at him. People turned around to see what was going on.

The guy straitened up.

"I'm terrible sorry sir. Please go on in."

"Gratzi." Marc said as they entered the party.

"Giovanni? Maria?" Molly said laughing.

Marc laughed as well.

"Did you have a different plan?" Marc said as they entered the ball room.

"Now what?" Molly asked.

"We watch him but dont' make it obvious. We should dance and keep an eye on him. I can see him from here. He's blond wearing a gray pin stripped suit with a tie. When the party ends we make our move. Put him in an interrogation room, make an interrogation, and leave him to wake up in the morning with a killer headache." Marc said. "Unless of course..you have a different plan." Marc said looking at Molly.
