Ace had been running around doing a lot of work on this case. This, stupid case, he thought. Ace wasn't sure how he'd gotten caught up in this mess, "In fact, how am I caught up in this incredible dramatic saga that these people call life?", he thought as he rode to DPI in a taxi," I mean, Mak can't decide, Clift can't decide, Violet is pregnant..."

"Oooh, wait..." He thought, "I'm not supposed to know that. Yet, it's so obvious. All the secrecy between Clift and Violet, Clift sending me off to talk to Violet so he can have time alone with Mak, Violet scaring me... I tell ya, no woman has ever scared me more than that Violet Parr since I was eight and mother was pregnant with Danny. And then, that night they had when S went missing... Clift must've done it there..."

Ace's mind was zipping every which way... except in the direction of Lillian Angel. Ace really couldn't focus on this case, especially when he knew so little about it.

The work Ace had done since he left Violet was a lot, though. He found a note at Lil's office that had evidently been attached to that rock. Handwriting was left handed, apparently coming from a stressed female. But, boy, did it ever take him a long time just to find that out.

In the trash, he also found some twine that had apparently been used to tie the note to the rock in Lil's trash can. He also established that the rock would have been very out of place at the base of the building, meaning someone hadn't just scribbled a message on a piece of paper and tied it to a random rock. They actually used a rock from somewhere else.

As a matter of fact, the rock seemed to be stained with sea salt. Why would a rock have traces of sea salt unless it was from the sea? So, apparently, the rock must've come from the beach or something like that.

Finally, after quite a bit of tracking, Ace concluded that the rock could only have come from the Curracloe beach in Ireland. Interesting... a rock from Ireland turning up in London...

Ace knew he would be two hours late in arriving at ctown's, but that ctown would be fairly contect with the findings.

"Ahh, the missing Ace. You have finally decided to show your face?" ctown was well, rather upset.
"Missing? Hardly." Ace stated bluntly, "I've been working on the case, but tracking that rock down took two hours in itself... that's why I'm so dreadfully late."

Ace showed ctown his findings and, needless to say, ctown found them very interesting.

After hours of talking, or what seemed to be, Makensie stands up, and says, "Well, should we go to ctown's office now, and see if anyone has showed up yet?"

She walked a few steps, then staggered back a bit, feeling light headed. Clift hurried to her, and put his arm around her, and says, "Mak, whoa, are you ok?"

She chuckles lightly, and says, "Yeah, wow, I dont know what came over me. That drink must've went right to my head"

"Are you sure you don't need to relax a minute before we go to your Director's office", Clift asked, with concern. In the back of his mind, he was thinking, Oh man, please not let this be what it looks like.

She waved him off, and says, "Oh, don't be silly. I am fine. Lets go"

"Very well, then. After you", he says.

They walk to ctown's office, and walk in.

There they find Ace showing ctown, what looked to be, a rock.

"Ace! There you are!", Makensie said, with a smile. She was very happy to see him.

Ace smiles, and said, "Yup! It is me...the one and only"

He looks over at Clift, then back at Makensie, and looking back at Clift, he says, "Hey there Clift"

Clift nods, and returns the greeting, as they let Ace explain what he found.

As he tried to pay attention, Clift couldn't help thinking of Makensie's light headed spell back in her office, and his upcoming wedding, that he really wasn't looking forward to, and even more so, the fact that he has to tell Makensie about it, as well.

He shook his head of thoughts for now, and tuned back into what Ace was saying..

....and let me tell you, this wasn't easy to find", Ace was saying, excitedly.

Hours later...

Some hours later Ctown and Mak were hugging Lillian Angel in a group hug, all very happy that she is fine after all.

They were all at the Tea Merchant's shop.

The leads found by Clift, Mak, Violet & Ace all led to the Eastern Triads, and Ctown had called the authorities.

Together with the police, Ace, Mak, Clift & Ctown all went to the Tea Merchants shop and found Lillian Angel tied up in one of the room of the building.

Lilangel could not remember exactly who kidnapped her, but the police were on it and the team were glad she was safe.

Ctown decided to walk Lillian back to DPI Headquarters.

Mak, Clift and Ace decided to walk home.

Clift was happy for the walk since he needed to clear his head. Whilst Ace and Mak were chatting throughout about the intensity of it all, and how the final rescue of Lillian Angel went exactly according to plan, Clift was silent.

He was thinking about it all: His upcoming marriage to Miss Parr. He needed to send Vivienne a telegram, telling her to come to London immediately, after all the wedding was only a week away.

He also could not help but wonder about the possibility of Mak being pregnant due to her actions.

"Two children within only one month of each other... that should be interesting," he thought.

{Porchester Hall, London}

Miss Violet Parr wore a plum gown for the occasion.

She was standing next to Mr. Clift Garrett before the Minister in charge of administrating the wedding proceedings and legal arrangements of the Ceremony at Porchester Hall.

Also present at the Wedding Ceremony were Sir Albert Parr and Lady Madhuri Parr, Violet’s parents, along with four of Violet’s six brothers including Leopold Parr.

Miss Vivienne Garrett, Clift’s sister had just made it to the Ceremony.

The wedding did not actually take place on the 7th of October, but rather ten days later on the 16th for it took much longer than anticipated to obtain the marriage license from the appropriate register office.

The Minister conducting the civil marriage read the marriage license out several times before asking both Violet and Clift for their consent.

Leopold Parr and Vivienne Garrett then signed as witnesses to the civil ceremony.

Clift and Violet finally kissed one another on the lips and though everyone around cheered and was happy, the two of them had very indifferent looks on their faces.

It was a very simple occasion of a kind. Everyone present, though dressed formally, had a very casual atmosphere around them.

Amongst the guests in the second row, were two distinguished looking people: A gentleman and a lady.

The woman was dressed in a beautiful ruby red dress, and the man wore an elegant three-piece suit. They were Mr. Tony Masters and Miss Makensie Brewer.

Ace turned to Makensie and nodded towards where Clift and Violet stood before the Ministry and spoke softly. “So I guess Clift decided to marry Miss Parr after all.”

“He did the right thing.” Makensie nodded. She pursed her lips tightly so that no one could notice her emotions underneath her composed exterior.

She really loved Clift, and truly regretted the fact that due to social decorum, he was now marrying a woman he did not truly love, and one who did not love him back as well.

“Ace?” Makensie spoke all of the sudden as the marriage ceremony came to an end. “I need some fresh air…” Makensie Brewer suddenly felt breathless.

“Sure, Mak.” Ace got up with an arm around Makensie and guided her out.

The voices of celebration grew behind them, and Mak noticed Clift glancing at her and Ace from the corner of his eyes wondering what was wrong.

"Mak, I know youaren't feeling easy about this..." Ace started.
"No, no... he's doing the right thing..." Mak stammered.
"The right thing isn't always right for everyone." Ace said bluntly.
"What do you mean by that?" Mak inquired.
"Well, look at it this way." Ace explained, "Violet doesn't really love Clift, and visa versa. Yet, they have to marry each other, which is making it quite hard on you, for you love Clift. It's all a weird, Shakesperean melodrama to me."
"I guess you're right." Mak said, "The only person this will really benefit is the baby."
"Won't it be ironic if it was just a fluke and Violet isn't really pregnant?"
"Oh, don't even say such a thing!" Mak yelled, "I'd really hate for this to happen to find out that it didn't have to!"

Makensie felt suddenly dizzy, as Ace guided her to the bench.

"Here, sit down. See? Getting yourself all upset, and with your busy schedule, you are wearing yourself down", Ace said.

She looked at him, and started chuckling.

"What?", he said, with a slight smile.

"First time, I think, that I've ever see you serious", she said, laughing.

Ace chuckled, and said, "...and yet, you still laugh" They laughed together, as she felt rather sickish.

Growing serious, she said, "I wouldn't wish on Violet that she not really be pregnant. I mean, I know she didn't choose for this to happen, but, I wouldn't wish that she not be pregnant either....I just..." She stopped there.

Ace really liked Makensie, and he knew she liked him too. He just wishes that he could some how turn her interests a little more toward him, but, he was never good at these sorts of things, and that is why he dove so hard into his work.

"We best go back in now. Time to congratulate the bride and groom", she said, smiling.

"You sure you are ok?", he said.

She nods, and says, "Yes, Im sure"

They walk back inside, and she looks at Violet, and how beautiful she looks, then to Clift, who was, as always, very handsome.

Tears came instantly to her eyes, but she quickly batted them away, as she looks at Ace, and says, "Ready to do this?"

"Are YOU?", he asks. She takes a deep breath, and nods.

Walking up to Violet, she gives her friend a hug, and says, "Best wished to you, my friend" Violet remains hugging Makensie, as she says in her ear, so noone else can listen, "Things will all work out Mak. I know this is hard on you" In return Makensie smiled, and gave her a friendly squeeze, and looked to Clift.

Ace shook his hand, tapped his shoulder, and said, "Congrats, married guy" Clift nod, smiles, and says, "Thanks, my man"

Ace steps back, and walks to Violet, as Makensie slowly walks to Clift.

"Well, you are now a married man, Mr Garrett", she said, smiling softly, as tears welled up uncontrollably.

Clift held her hands, and pulled her to him, as they hugged one another.

"You know it wouldn't be like this, Mak, under normal circumstances", he whispered.

She kissed his cheek, and said, "I'm happy that you made the right decision. You have a wonderful, beautiful wife....and I wish the best of luck to both of you" Her voice trembled, and she quickly walked away, before her tears spilled out uncontrollably.

Clift tried to say something, but it was too late, she was out the door.

Violet looked at Clift, as he looked back at her, then they became swarmed with family, and their laughter of happiness.

****

Outside, Makensie sat on the bench, more emotional than normal. She couldn't figure it out.

She buried her face in her hands, and cried. Ace walks out, and finds her there, as he walks up and sits down beside her.

He pulls her to him, and hugs her, letting her get her emotions out, as a gentleman would do.

"I'm such a damn cry baby. Look at me, I'm such an idiot", she said, through sobs, her eyes red, and nose stuffed up.

Ace remains holding her, as he says, "Anyone ever tell you how sexy you look when your nose is all red, and your eyes a mix of blue and red, and that stuffed up voice? That is really hot, Mak"

Through her sobs, she laughed, and said, "You are such a dork!" Then, she laughed, and cried all together, as she clang on to him, her face buried in his shoulder.

"Come on. Lets go get a bite to eat huh?", he said, gently pulling her back.

She nods, wiping her face, and says, "After I clean myself up here"

They stand up, he put his arm around her , as they walked down the sidewalk.

What in the world is coming over me, Makensie thinks.

A small wedding reception was held at the private residence of Violet’s parents just off the Kensington High Street.

The main hall was showered with vibrant bouquets of violets and lilacs and everyone was mingling and chatting the evening away.

There was some dancing as well: Clift Garrett danced with his sister, Miss Vivienne Garrett and Violet’s mother, Lady Madhuri Parr. When he approached Violet for a dance, she politely declined and asked him for a word.

When they were alone, Violet spoke softly but firmly. “Mr. Garrett, Miss Brewer is sitting all alone with only Mr. Masters comforting her. She is putting a very strong face for the sake of my friendship and your love by coming to both our wedding ceremony and reception. The least you can do is afford her a few minutes and comfort her at this time instead of dancing with the guests.”

“But Violet, you told me it was important to keep up appearances throughout the wedding!” Clift was shocked at Violet’s sudden caring and concern about Makensie Brewer.

“I did.” Violet nodded. “I stand by it, but you must understand that ours is a marriage of expedience, whereas Makensie truly has feelings for you that run very deep.”

Clift nodded. “I understand… I shall go and speak to her at once.”

Violet smiled and then hugged Clift Garrett very tightly. “Thank you for doing this… It means the world to me that my self-respect before my dearest father and brothers was maintained.”

Clift bowed his head slightly. “I did nothing out of duty my dearest Miss Parr.”

With that, they both went back into the wedding reception with bright, dazzling smiles.
