Twinking.

What's the general opinion about twinking? Personally I'm against it. I just wanted to hear what people think. Also I'm aware that you can't access higher level cases until you reach a certain amount of experience, but that limit is loose.
For those of you who don't know what twinking means, it's when you have more than one character and give money and/or equipment from one of your characters to another to give it an advantage. It's normally used to give powerful equipment from high level to low level characters that normally can't access it in the game because for some reason it's not available to them.
Look it up in wikipedia or some similar source if you want to read more.

Most agencies will help out new people with gear and cases to "level up" faster so that they can help out the agency better. No matter if it is a new person or a second (double) of someone already in the agency.
The only way to do this is to have two detectives subscribed and in the same agency. Which if you are paying for two accounts, you might as well be able to share case loads, money, equipment and the like.
And Biggie is correct. More than two detectives in the same agency is against the rules.

I will offer that it is very easy to have more than two detectives in an agency run by the same person.
There are several agencies in the game that have one to three real players behind the 9 or 10 detectives. With password sharing and being able to access every detective in an agency it does not really matter who created the detective in the first place. (which is the two detectives per player rule cited above)
As players leave the game thier detectives sometimes become 'shared' in an agency and they used by everyone. This makes it easy to push all the cases from that zombie detective to the other active players who want the cases. Or use them for their PE contact, etc.
It is one of the reasons I am hoping that Shades of Mystery starts with some sort of prohibition on password sharing.

Okay, well, password sharing may be exploited (although it really is) to get around the two detectives per agency per person rule, but in regards to only having one double in your agency, I see nothing wrong with transfer of money/equipment from one to the other.

Ok. Thanks for your thoughts. Keep 'em coming. I didn't know about the "only two subscribed agents per player in an agency"-rule. I can see the point in Arabella's reasoning too. It's some sort of diet twinking. You *have* after all paid for it. And put in hours of work. *wanders off to consider*

I don't see why the whole "who controls what detective" is relevant here. The rule is the rule, if people break it and are caught, they can get in trouble (though thats a loose term). No need to bring it up again and flare up another debate on it.

OK, since R Anstett brought it up (though I wish he hadn't), might as well link to this bit of history.
But be forewarned, this was a HUGE debate that left many people upset and caused Ben to have to create this post.

"4) A single player should not be the primary controller of any more than two detectives in a single agency. The only time when we can positively identify individual players is at the subscription purchase. So in practice, this is interpreted to mean that no more than two detectives in a single agency can be subscribed by the same person. "

I see. That means I can't pay for a friend's subscription. Or rather more than one friend's subscription.

Whoa! I started reading that thread you linked, Arabella, and I could feel it! All the way up my spine. That felt disturbing to say the least, so I quit reading. I've been through that kinda debacle before, in other communities. I agree with posters saying "don't bring this up again". We'll all regret it.

Jim, while twinking is common in games such as World of Warcraft, Everquest, etc., it's relatively unknown as a concept here. Especially in the context it's known in those other games.
As was mentioned earlier, our gear really has little to do with our skill at completing cases. Some of the best gear to be had is the gear I received when I first signed on with an agency and wore until this latest expansion gave us more to choose from. As for doing cases we haven't really the skills to complete, they don't even open up for us until we reach a certain xp level. So, a person with 10k xp simply cannot open, let alone complete (with or without help) an AI case.
