A place to talk about the new game coming out from the developers of Sleuth Noir.

Expected Launch Time: October 2007

Jojo and Ran our both correct in a sense. The full title is "Sleuth: Shades of Mystery", but it is not really a sequel to Sleuth: Noir. Both games are best described as mystery role playing games, but there will be many differences. We plan on playing, maintaining and expanding both as long as people want to play them.

Major Similarities:
------------------

* Every player will have a detective persona

* The core activity of both games is solving mysteries

* Players will be able to organize themselves into Detective Agencies

Major Differences:
-------------------

* Game Play
Sleuth: Noir is essentially interactive fiction with an underlying logic puzzle. Cases in Sleuth: Shades of Mystery will have a similar logical structure, but the actual gameplay will incorporate additional visual puzzle elements and point-and-click exploration.

* Setting
Sleuth: Noir takes place of fictionalized versions of cities from around the world. Sleuth: Shades of Mystery will take place entirely within a single fictional city (at least at launch).

* Character Accounts
The skill and advancement systems will be different enough that detectives from Sleuth: Noir will not be transferable to Sleuth: Shades of Mystery.

* Technical requirements
Sleuth: Shades of Mystery requires a broadband connection, and the flash plugin.

* Accessibility
Sleuth: Shades of Mystery will not meet accessibility requirements for visually challenged players, and players with hearing problems may be at a disadvantage as well.

Basically, while we do think that a lot of our current players will enjoy both games, some of you will not be interested in Shades of Mystery (and some new players will choose Shades of Mystery over Sleuth: Noir). We have a lot of ideas of where to go with the current game, but we also have a lot of ideas that required an entirely game new system.

From what I understand Sleuth II is the project name they used and Sleuth: Shades of mystery is the official name which they have decided on. Just wanted to clarify that.

Yes to Yoyo.

I think it is good to clarify that they are different games (Thanks for such clear info Ben!) for potentially different audiences.

After Sleuth Con and talking with some former Noir players, they were very happy to find out that this was not just 'more gear, more cities, etc' but a new conceptual way to play a mystery game.

Is there anywhere we can go to see screen shots of the game?

Screenshots are currently not public, no.

Expect to see something with an informational release soon.

Oh, screen shots are now up at the Shades of Mystery page in City Hall.

Three up, three to come.

I'm guessing just by looking at the screen shots that it's no longer in a 1920's-1930's time frame.

The time frame for SoM is in the 1950's.

New evidence types of Tobacco and Lipstick to add to the mix with that time frame also.

1950's :(

I also saw that bullets are also a new type of evidence.
