At Sleuth Con I in June we were lucky enough to get a sneak preview of a new game coming out this fall.

Shades of Mystery is a Flash based game where you are a detective and solve mysteries. You visit a victims house, you gather evidence, you find suspects, you gather evidence from them, compare that evidence and try to solve the mystery.

Very similar in concept to Sleuth Noir but there are a lot of fun differences that make this a totally different game.

SoM has a very nice avatar creator to keep everyone's faces inside the theme and setting of the game. Must be hundreds of thousands of variations there.

There are nice concepts like timed cases, where the game clock is ticking as you try to solve the mystery. Loads of equipment types and interesting ways of interacting with the in game players.

Lots of fun twists to explore too. Unlocking locations, equipement that degrades after being used so many times, the chance to comb the newspaper office to find the case that looks fun to solve.

I know that many of us are looking forward to this new game as both a companion or alternative to Sleuth Noir.

Even more importantly, for those who have seen the screenshots too: sound!!!

Seriously though, Ben (and Sunny) has agreed to do another interview with myself about Sleuth II. SleuthTips.com will be hosting it as soon as it is conducted and will be holding polls for questions you'd like asked. I'll be accepting questions soon enough, so get thinking as to what you'd like asked!

There are agencies in SoM but there are not expected to be any Treasure Hunts to start off with.

There seems to be a lot of ways to interact with both the parts of the mystery and the other players in the game.

Forgive my ignorance but is SoM the same game others are calling Sleuth II?

Yes, Sleuth II is the same as Shades of Mystery

I started this thread exactly for that confusion Sophie.

SoM is a new game, totally seperate from Sleuth. It is NOT Sleuth II, or have anything to do with Sleuth:Noir except that it is by the same developers.

Nothing from Noir will transfer over, it is starting a new game.

Noir will continue to be supported as Admin said in a different thread.

I'm not sure what you're talking about, Ran, but all of the screenshots I have seen have "Sleuth" above the lettering "Shades of Mystery," so I'm pretty confident in saying that it is a part of the Sleuth franchise.

I'm totally confused. I know thats not hard to get me confused but still....

Is or is not Shades of Mystery the same as Sleuth II? It sounds like JoJo says yes and Ran so no.

So there are going to be TWO Sleuths and 1 Shades of Mystery. We will have three games to choose from, not two. And Ben has been developing all of them? And still has time to create Gate Keys?
