Now that we have a post for trading and selling items and it's a part of the game, could the detective shop be used for this instead?

As it is right now, it's pretty redundant, the stuff in there is pretty much a waste of money too buy even for a new player.

It would make more sense and be so much easier if you could just use the Detective to buy, sell and trade.

I realise this would take some time and work to implement and it wouldn't be easy, but it seem nuts people having to leave their agencies and join another one to buy, sell and trade when there is a shop.

It would also mean that a newbie player who keeps getting Gold Bangles could trade anohter Newbie for the Chemistry sets they keep getting.

I know there was some opposition to this idea before and justified opposition but this is all going on now anyway.
And this will just make the whole process fairer and more open to everyone.

I understand what you're saying flautim, and I think it's worthy and valid.
Many of the opposition to this before (and I agreed then) was the same as yours.
However, all this is already going on and it's not going to change anything.
All it would do it use an exsisting feature that is redundant for the purpose it should be intended for, that is, selling useful gear to people,
Since there is already a Trading Post, none of what I propose will change a thing except make it a little easier and in a lot of ways fairer.
One example, someone sold AV Gear to a newbie, the reason that newbie could do that was because they were subbed.
This one means that Newbies/unsubbed have the chance to buy, sell and
trade gear actually making more of this "balance" people keep talking about.

While, the idea of sleuth may have been to gain things yourself through your own effort and sleuthing this isn't how a lot of people play the game.

Why? Because the community often bands together to help each other out. I know of numerous occasions where someone in another agency has helped each other help. And this was even over a year ago.

Also while buying anything you want may somehow defeating the object, it's already happening. If you need proof, check out how popular the Trading Post is. Even before that was implented and even before that one on the boards, people already bought or traded things.
For example, if someone in Shanghai needed a Bloodhound, they'd talk to an agency in New York to see who wanted an Ivory Pipe.

I understand completely how you feel. My idea was merely because this already is happening, that a shop will make it more fair (that unsubbeds can buy things too) and that the redundant shop can now be a feature and be useful :)

Im all with this idea. A change of the Detective Shop to a 'working' Trading Store would greatly improve Sleuth's commerce I think. Right now, interagency trading relies too much on subscribed 'middleman' mules. With a Trade Store in effect, it could eliminate the use of other accounts so you can buy and sell stuff with your main detective. This goes well with your other idea LED, the one to have like 3 auxilliary storage spaces for your detective. Theyre great ideas, both of em. ;P

And on an a sidenote... will you guys
a. move over to Sleuth II when it comes?
b. get another subscription/account for Sleuth II?
c. stay here in classic Sleuth: Noir?

Butcher has hit upon that partially hidden incentive for the current system.

It requires active subbscribed players to trade with each other. Some players even subscribe a detective not for the additional cases but to use for game play like moving and trading gear or roleplaying in a different agency.

More subscriptions means more money for Sleuth.

While putting in a fully functioning store would not likely cut down on subs already in existance an alternative point of view could be that having a functioning store only available to subscribers would encourage more people to.

There is another (different) way that the Detective Shop can be changed that might be helpful.

People sell whatever items they don't want to the shop. Those items then become available for other people to buy. Not at a player-created price; each item would have a standard selling price.

Okay, perhaps it's not exciting. But it does a couple of things: it makes those items unwanted by person A available to anyone else, and it keeps people from charging insanely high prices or undercutting each other too rabidly. Yes, doing both of those things may be fun and realistic, but I'd kind of like my entertainment to be more fair than real life.

If a person can't afford something (I'm sure AV hunt items would be very expensive), then they can't have it. Or perhaps they have to choose between the awesome coat and the awesome accessory, instead of getting both. In any case, the seller offloads the item to the shop, it is no longer connected to them in any way - so, if they are forced to retire, the item isn't lost to someone who wants to buy it.

And if people still want to trade, then they are able to do so, using the current systems for trading.
