Okay, this is becoming an issue.

Newbies want to play the Unread Will as their first case. They are adamant about it for some reason. And nine times out of ten, they come into bar chat asking for help on a case they cannot complete, because they have neither the skills nor the Sleuth-developed brain to figure it out.

My suggestion: we put an experience minimum on the case. 1000 exp before you can even open it? Something in that ball park.

I know the case is available to unsubbed detectives to show them the joy of being subscribed, but I do not think it is a good idea to have it open to detectives who have not even played a few cases (or even the tutorial, for that matter), causing many newbies to struggle with a case they obviously cannot handle.

I agree Jo! I cannot tell you how many times Jo and I have come across this, and when we do tell them we think it's best they develop some more skills first by playing cases and such, they refuse to listen and yell at us and call us mean for not helping them. I for one am tired of this!

Well, I can't speak for all newbies, but not all of us are that way. I didn't bother trying it until I was over 500 exp. When I did run into trouble, I quickly found help by using one of the many search engines. Whether or not your suggestion is accepted, I'd recommend directing them towards Yahoo or something like that. :)

I think you have it confused with the little job questions Kiyanayah!

The Unread Will was written as a featured mystery and to my knowledge you can't find anything on yahoo about it.

Umm, Lady Jas a google search will find a step through guide on how to complete the mystery. (As presumably would any other major search engine.)

I agree, when I was totally new, we didn't have that as an unsubcribed mystery, but i thought begginer would be too easy so I went to easy, got a false *whateverit'scalled* (can't spell everything right =) )

I think a minimum experience level would help a lot. It prevents people with no experience diving into something too hard and then getting discouraged enough to never come back. Plus it give the newbies a goal that is not too hard to achieve while also giving them valuable experience in solving cases in general. With a short/easy goal, people would be more willing to come back day after day to reach that level to open something 'new'.

I have 810 experince right now and solved the unread will case with about 400 ex I think. I think 1000 ex pts might be to high as a requirement, maybe it could be 400 or 500 pts instead.

Change the front page. I dashed right into the unread will on my first time on as it was top left, first thing I saw. The tutorial was bottom right, a little more hidden. And the whole choosing the random mystery I missed! I don't think minimum xp's are the way to go. part of the fun or frustration of them is not nowing where it all went wrong... must try again....
