I am happy to announce that the latest expansion to Sleuth: Noir, the Nemesis Hunt, is officially live as of 23:00 server time on September 9th, 2012. That is a full hour AHEAD of the scheduled update time, so first off let me start by thanking Ben for everything he has done to enable this expansion from day 1. He has been very open and supportive in this endeavor, and none of this could have been done without him. So thank you, Ben.

Now, on to the good stuff... how do nemesis hunts work?

If you have captured 3 or more Arch-Villains (10 starting October 1st), you are able to start a Nemesis Hunt. The first step is to head to Shangri-La and talk to the Prince.

...and that is the only step I will give you.

Good luck everyone! There is a special achievement on the line for the first person to capture a Nemesis, so get to it...

Is there any way to lure the urchin if he hasn't paid a visit in days? I know the game is random but ......

I mean we can't solve nemesis clues if we don't get the 'urchin cases' in the first place. Any tips? Does he have a particular fondness for gruel or does he prefer a clip round the ear? Or is he one of those cissy boys who likes a big warm hug and a milk shake? Let me know what works for you and I'll stock up!

I have waited 100+ cases. There's about a 5% chance depending on what city you are in to get the Urchin. I say what city you are in becuase the Urchin is a twist, and some cities have more twists than others. So in the cities with more twists the chances are higher to get the urchin to offset the competition between twists.

Squirrel are you sure chances are higher in those cities with more twists?
If you wanted to offset the competition then you'd set the event to get an urchin in every city to about equal chances anyway right? I mean if a city had 5 twists and you need 1/5 chance to get the urchin, then you'd fix the raito to offset the competition so a city with 10 twists would likely have 2 urchin cases in 10.

Well I thought it was fixed somehow from the start, however experience tells otherwise and plus, I had my urchin tell me some cities had less twists, lol! I visit that city so rarely it never even occurred to me that it had no factions!

We need a candy store in there :)

*correction: 2 urchin twists in 10 twists, cases have nothing to do with it*

I have three detectives doing Nemesis hunt, and it never occured to me that the reason for my 'luck' was that my agency is situated in the city with a candy store :). Yes, you must be right, Eden. There are also, in my experience, other ways to get the urchin soon after you completed your last mission ( 'legal' ways, not the multiple missions, I never tried that). Today it took one of my detectives two cases and the other about eight to get the urchin.

Just my opinion on the issue
-I strongly disagree with people telling that they join (or will leave the game) because of nemesis. We have been in for years for the main core of the game not for nemesis.
-Nemesis is the best that happened in sleuth world the last years so no matter if there are plenty of bugs in....still is a great addon
-Complains may exist but to my opinion are just normal side effects and not at all important. I also had to wait for 3 weeks to get a twist...so what? We play our game in the between like we did years now and i see absolutely no problem to that. I hear that some people are stucked in a situation for 1-2 months....again i ask so what? Why you people react like we have a race or something? You may finish yr nemesis after a year or even two....again so what? SS finished a VH after 3 years and gave us a good example of that

The developers will fix all bugs eventually. Ok this may take a year. So what people????Play yr core game and enjoy as nemesis is great no matter how many complains exist

AND pls remember we are in for the whole game not just for the nemesis part!

Hmm - I still have a lot of sympathy for those who are experiencing bugs and other problems. Who are you or I to say, my dear VS, that people are "in for the whole game not just the nemesis part"? We don't really know the various reasons why people do or do not play. Many people have left Noir over the years for all kinds of reasons. Maybe they are bored. Maybe work, family. Maybe they have played "the whole game" for a long time and now want something different.

Some who had left, or were about to leave, decided to stay on solely because of the nemesis hunts. Something new! Like many others, I think it was wonderful that Serges took the time and trouble to develop this. Perhaps, as has been suggested elsewhere, it should simply have gone through a longer phase of beta testing before being launched?

Anyhow, on another note, when purchasing any product or service, customers (which is what we all are) have a right to complain when basic service standards are not met. We may disagree on what those standards are, but raising issues is normal and expected. So to tell people not to raise issues and to keep quiet about it...? Tut, tut VS :)

I can see both sides. Problems can't be magically rectified overnight. But there must be some kind of limit before - at the very least- refunds are offered. I have a lot of sympathy for what Beefy and others are experiencing. In addition, if I have a query regarding nemesis hunts - e.g. not seeing the urchin for a while - why should this not be queried on the boards just like any other question about the game? I'll continue to do so :)

Happy sleuthing!

Dear Summer, the thing is, Nemesis is the product of a completely voluntary effort. It's not a purchase. It's something a player did to make the other players happy. That's good enough a reason to be happy, in my opinion. ( Thank you, Serges.) Many of us, including you, agree with this anyway.

Nemesis isn't some service that Ben charges anyone for. I think VS is only reminding us of this fact. He's strictly talking about Nemesis and says leaving because of Nemesis sounds a bit absurd (and many people returned Noir before Nemesis actually).

I think he's right because:

- people knew that this was a voluntary work.

- people have been reminded of the fact that Serges was the sole creator of Nemesis and Ben was as much a stranger to it as us when it was first launched.

- it's a work still in progress

- we cannot treat this work as if we were paying for this.

- we chose to play it and we never thought "it's unfair that we are not paying for this, we should pay, it's a great expansion". No, we just jumped right in.

- if the work is voluntary, then playing it is a choice. There absolutely is no bargain for anyone to hold their end of.

So let's first pay for it if we are to treat Nemesis as part of some Noir service. Doesn't sound very nice when put this way, does it? This question is what it all comes down to, however, when people coldly think of this as part of some professional work they paid for.

It actually destroys the whole beauty in a voluntary work. Months of work, according to what Ben says. Despite its bugs, it's possibly the greatest addition made to the game and it's going to be even better when it's finished.

Most of all, nothing but goodwill was and is behind it. What more could anyone ask for?

You know, I cannot imagine Linux users making a deal of its problems. Only, Linux users contribute to Linux whereas we can do no such thing for Nemesis because we know nothing about codes.
