OK ... as there are so many readers and writers here, we'll see if this is popular ...

I'll post a list of dictionary definitions and see if you can provide the word. I'll try to balance between making it too hard and making it interesting. I'll try and make it so that, even if you don't one right, you'll at least have heard the word before. For each quiz, all answers will begin with the same letter:

Right ... I'm going to do something new for the next one. As a language, English has the richest vocabulary of all languages, largely due to the many and varied influences on it (Latin, Greek, French, German, etc). Although this is great, it also means there are lots of 'silly' words in English - words that no one uses, hardly anyone knows what they mean and if you ever used them at a party you'd ruin your chances of getting a dance that night. They can still be quite good fun, though, so I'm putting in a bonus word at the end of the six. Anyone that gets it will have my lasting admiration and respect. Of course, I might just be displaying my own ignorance of a very common word, but there you go : o )
