Detective Biography

It was a dark and stormy night. Alone on a corner stood a small woman, her hair blowing in the chill wind. She shivered as she looked around and stifled a chuckle.” This place,” she thought to herself, “is made of clichés.”
Thomar, the man she was supposed to meet, also known as her fiancé was late. Again. She shifted her grip on her Tommy gun and sighed. Waiting was never something she did well, and the weather was wearing her patience thin faster than normal. “Why can’t something go right in this city just once?” She voiced her question to the flickering streetlight down the block.
Figuring she had given him enough time, she sighed again, pulled her beret a little lower over her eyes, and began the long walk back to her office.
Not surprised in the least to find her precinct deserted, she flicked on the lights and headed down the hall to her office, her soaked clothing leaving a trail of puddles behind her. When she arrived at the cramped closet they called her office she raised a curious eyebrow at the door that should have been locked.
Looking around, she noted that nothing seemed out of place. That was a change, normally when they broke into her office they riffled through all her papers and stole all her pens. Then she pulled out her chair.
She choked back a scream and stumbled back from her desk. She stumbled over her wastebasket and crashed to the floor.
Unable to move, unable to think, she sat where she had fallen and stared at her chair, tears streaming down her cheeks. The reason for Thomar’s absence was no longer a mystery; his head was on her chair.
Gingerly she reached forward a shaking hand and removed the note tacked to his forehead. She read it through tear-blurred eyes. “LEAVE. THIS IS YOUR FIRST WARNING.” Her hands shaking with anger now instead of pain, she crumpled the note and threw it out the hall.
After all she’d done, the crimes she’d solved, the people she’d saved, the criminals she’d arrested, this is how they repaid her. She stood up slowly, relishing the hot fury that coursed through her veins. Her mind, previously filled with hope, was now filling with thoughts of revenge and determination.
“I’ll take revenge for you Thomar. Our dreams may be shattered, but mine will not break so easily. I will bring justice to those that did this, and those that would do the same.” She vowed to what was left of the man she loved.
