your friend may be able to compress the file before transferring it to you over modem. if they can't or don't know how, it can be put on cd and then you can put it on your computer. you may want to use a CD-RW for that, then you can reuse the cd. :-)

It will hold on a CD, generally they old 650MB or more. Or are you saying it needs 138 MB per second to then download for 19.5 hours, which is 138x60 seconds x 60 minutes x 19.5 hours = uhm a lot. :) You wrote mbs, which mega bits per second. If it is 138 MB he can burn it on a CD and send it to you. If it is 138 mb per second, I suppose he needs to send on a small server. :)
Perhaps he can upload to gmail, or an ftp server, and you can view it else where.

Depends what it is, some files are really hard to reduce with winzip, like very large powerpoints or ms-project. If you don't have winzip installed, it probably takes a long time to download that too.
