Hi all. Our poor old server had a bad day. It was pretty slow yesteday, and may have even corrupted a few cases.

I finally had to put it out of it's misery this evening, and launched a brand-spankin new one.

I don't think any data was lost, but please let me know here if you think you were penalized somehow.

I've gone ahead and granted all current subscribers an extra day on their subscriptions.

The only bug that I know of right now is that bar chat isn't working. I'll get to that in the next couple days.

I like the 2nd option, quitting a bugged case without consequence. If that's not too much trouble.

I have saved some "quit' cases in case my nemesis asks for them. They're in my apt. but I"m on a villan hunt so I can't check them. All sorts of scenarios here aren't there?.

R.I.P old server pal, you fought the good fight.

Tbh I think your average well-educated, reasonable, player can probably see that, whilst inconvenient, it may just be as easy to wipe them all. And solve all future problems now.

I think that argument would carry more weight if stored cases weren't such a large part of Nemesis hunts, particularly for players who are trying to catch one in the shortest space of time. To be 60 days into a hunt that has potential to make you the fastest Nemesis hunter to date, only to have that scuppered because your carefully stored cases have been wiped out, would be very frustrating. Especially when that wiping had been done needlessly.

I did use the word 'reasonable'... I didn't really expect it to play a part in the conversation, but I at least tried :)

I am sure Ben will acquiesce gracefully and stuff about trying to please everyone, coz that's just how he rolls, nice bloke that he is.

It doesn't seem fair to brand everyone who disagrees with you as unreasonable. Yes, there's something to be said for the ease of wiping the lot, but on the other hand players have invested time and money (both in game and in life) on getting and storing those cases. If a simple solution can be found to keep cases that people want to keep then is it really unreasonable to pursue that?

Ben, I'm all for wiping out all the bugged cases. Just mark them as bugged and we can let you know. If you have other cases that are solveable and stored, then no need to worry.

I know for me personally, I can't use my apartment cases that were stored. I had stored them so as not to lose them to do at a later date, then the server issue happened, thus making all my cases unsolveable.

Seems pretty simple to me. However, you're in charge and what you say goes. I'm sure you will do whatever is best.

Thanks all for your patience with this.

I have decided to go with option 2 (self service bugged case deletes). Not deciding this (just) because I painfully seek approval from all sleuthlings. This should future proof is from any similar problem, should one pop up in the next 12(!) years of Noir.

I think I've got something ready that will work. Just waiting for Yetiface to lend me a second set of eyes so I don't make the problem worse.

Gleefully,
Papa Sleuth

Ok. If you try to visit a townie in one of these bugged cases, you should now get the option of clearing out the case with no marks on your record.
