I am a beginner and am not getting anywhere. I have gotten everyone's alibies and motives, and have asked all of the townspeople their suspisions, but where do I go from there? How can I find physical evidence?

search your crime scene. sometimes, there will be no physical evidence though.

Click on the tab that says crime scene if you don't search right away at the beginning. Then you should find some evidence to ask the townspeople about.
Shoemaker = footprints
Banker = handwriting
Barber = hairs
Tailor = threads
Also you can ask the suspects if /they/ suspect anyone. Two accusations of the same person = guilty.

A couple of things to add to the above:
Have you played the demo case from the front page? Always worth doing that.
And don't choose cases that are too hard for your detective; you can't get anywhere with the harder ones until you've built up the skills. You do need to play the easier ones first.

Thank you very much for all of your help. I didn't know that the banker did the handwriting, etc. You guys have been so much help!
