I recently found an awesome party/social game called "The Resistance" that my friends and I love to play. The premise is very similar to games like "mafia" and "werewolf"; you have a group of players, in which some of them are working against the group and have knowledge the others don't.

In "The Resistance", you are basically members of an underground organization known as "The Resistance" attempting to destroy the establishment. However, among you there are counter-agents, or "Imperial Spies" who are working to sabotage your efforts. The spies know who they are, as well as who else is a spy, but will for all intents and purposes appear to be working toward the goals of the Resistance.

The game takes place over a series of 5 "missions". The Resistance is trying to complete 3 missions successfully, while the spies are attempting to sabotage 3 missions. First one to 3 wins.

I choose from the beginning that Molly should not be a leader. :))) Her Maltese origin sounds just like a counter-resistance spy.

OK guys, it's time to start "The Resistance!"

We have 8 players:
Special_K
Nicnic
Danny Mack
Cekuray
Molly Maltese
Jason Arends
M. Lacrimosa
Illicit

Which means, 5 of you will be in the Resistance, while 3 of you will be Imperial Spies, pretending to be members of the Resistance.

In a few minutes, I will randomly determine who the spies are, and you will all receive a PM to the detective name you signed up under, saying either "Resistance" or "Imperial Spy". This is your allegiance for this game. DO NOT DIVULGE YOUR ALLEGIANCE to anyone!

In addition, if you are a spy, you will receive a second PM with the names of all 3 spies. Remember, you are NOT to communicate with your fellow players via PM; all communication should occur publicly, on this message board.

As soon as all the start-up information is PMed, I will randomize the list of players and post it. This is the list we will use for things like turn order.

Everyone has had their allegiance PMed to them. If you're in the Resistance, you know your allegiance only. If you are a Spy, you know the identities of the 3 spies in our game.

For this game, the player order is as follows:
M. Lacrimosa
Nicnic
Molly Maltese

Danny Mack

Special_K

This means that M. Lacrimosa will be the first leader. When leadership has to change, it will go down this list in order; once it reaches the bottom, it starts again at the top.

Also, there is a chance that at certain points, something will refer to the player "above" or "below" you; that's based on this list, and wraps around as well.

Shortly I will post the details about the first mission. At this point, the game is considered "ON". Feel free to chat in here until the first mission briefing is posted.

I don't know why I keep cracking up about this game because I highly suspect there is little chance we don't screw this up :-)

Wait so who are we fighting again? Is it just "The Man" sort of thing. Like we are taking down an evil government or sumthin?

ROUND 1

In this round, here is the mission information:
M. Lacrimosa is the leader. He is about to receive two abilities that he must distribute to players in the game (including himself if he chooses) before the mission can begin.

Those abilities are:
"OVERHEARD CONVERSATION": Whoever receives this will immediately learn the allegiance of the player above or below them on the list. They will choose the player, and I will PM them that player's allegiance.
"IN THE SPOTLIGHT": Whoever receives this can, before a mission's results are revealed, find out what a mission team member's action was for that mission (whether they chose "success" or "sabotage"). This can be used for any mission in the game.

M. Lacrimosa, the choice is yours; who will receive these abilities?

THE FIRST MISSION:
The resistance has learned of a weapons supply cache located on the outskirts of Imperial territory. Intelligence suggests this cache is destined for use against Resistance cells, and it must be destroyed before the Imperials can utilize them.
This mission will require 3 team members to go.

M. Lacrimosa, once the abilities have been passed out, you may propose the mission team. You may put yourself on the team if you so desire.

(made a slight error on "IN THE SPOTLIGHT"; here's the updated accurate information.)

"IN THE SPOTLIGHT": Whoever receives this can force a mission team member to post his or her action ("Success" or "Sabotage") publicly, rather than via PM. This can be used one time, on any player, for any mission in the game.
