Detective Biography

Shanghai.
I had gone into hiding. I am running driven just by my instinct now. No shadow on the dark streets but mine. I know he is chasing me, out there, somewhere. My lungs are screaming for oxygen and my exhausted muscles keep responding to my brain's command ''run you fool, or this is the end''.
He is behind me restless, relentless, focused and insanely precise in his reason. I had nightmares all my life that somebody like him might arrive at some point, somebody not worldly. He became my worst fear and greatest adversary.
I embraced an ugly life (some might say) of killing and vandalising, but who could blame me? Who could judge my deeds? We live rough times. I am very good at this, harming people. It is the very essence of life for me. By killing I am alive.
He is chasing me, urging me to confess all my sins and end my ''artist'' life. I can see him in the newspapers, on the streets, in the bar, talking to people, interrogating them, using his unique technique of persuasion, always getting his answers. He is new to the town, but he already has a reputation here €that he always gets his thug. And he is after me now... He is well-built, six feet ten, slim and trained, straight, short hair. His jaws are strong and his face grave and determined. Always wears a funny looking hat and that colonel-like attire. He doesn't have yet the deep wrinkles on his face of a long life of trials, not a young-one either. He is an ex-butcher boy who turned detective when he lost his loved-ones at the hands of an insignificant murderer. He started chasing us, the ''wrong ones'' since that day, judicious as a robot, almost made this himself an ''art'', a ''counter-art'' to my talent, close to reaching perfection.
Now he is chasing me. I can see the green shirt he favoured and feel his presence so close to mine, almost grabbing me. He is strong and has a menacing air - a tough character. Would I free myself from him?
..........................................................................................
All around me is dark and still. No sound. Suddenly I realise that I am not alone anymore. A noise... My left leg stiffened. I feel a shudder of chillness. I am hit. I cannot begin to grasp the meaning of the bitterness failure gives to you when it comes. I failed. I stop, falling. I crawl for another 15 yards and rest myself on the wall of an old house. A sureness is overwhelming me - my end is here. At least he is the worthiest adversary one can have. The game was good, but now is over. I see his shadow approaching, noiseless, not running, not breathing. He reaches in my coat's pocket and drops something in it and quickly vanishes into the dark. I cannot move. I am petrified. I look into my pocket, take out a piece of paper with two lines written and read it. It was his mark, his signature, his stamp on all ''delivered contracts'':
