Yes, it's that time again! When the world comes together to watch men do battle for their homelands. Yanks, no dissing of this great sport is necessary. American football? Who are you going to play against? Baseball? You only have one opponent Japan). Hockey? Better, but still.
Come watch and discuss as world politics are played out on a 100x75 meter pitch at 45 minute intervals to the sound of Vuvuzela, the smell of sweat and the taste of beer.

Damn refs are a bunch of cheaters. Jealous of the good ole US of A, calling a foul then aying, "we don't have to tell you what the foul is"

This is the equivalent of a mother telling her child, "Because I said so"

Not that I'm a big fan of soccer anyhow! ;-)

Wow..USA probably deserved to win, but the funny thing about soccer is that it is a game the whole world plays, so whining for a foul while your country unabashedly breaks all kinds of rules sounds a lot like the equivalent of throwing people in jail for seven or eight years then citing the patriot act that got inked the day the arrest order came in and telling the world "we don't have to tell you what terrorism is".

...not that discussing soccer is a good way to understand how the whole world feels, instead of just the world you see on Fox News, or anything like that.

So. Yoyo, thanks for the nod to the game most people in the world think of when they hear the word "football", and a very cheerful congrats to your dutchies for being one of only two teams (notably, the might Brazil is not the other) to gain full points in the first round. I'm SO looking forward to watching what they can do with Robben in the lineup.

So (II). Surprises are the name of the game this year. The winners and runners-up from last time out in the group stages??? Unthinkable! North Korea scoring against Brazil? Unthinkable! Germany losing to Ghana? Unthinkable! Not playing Thierry Henry? Unthinkable! Diego Maradona successfully coaching something that isn't a spoonful of cocaine to do anything that isn't fly up his nose? Unthinkable!

So (III). Group stages are over! Who's gonna win? I kind of think it's Argentina....

I agree Crunch, Argentina could be this year's champions. What's really interesting though is how both finalists from the last cup dropped out before the knockout round even began. I mean, I was hoping for another Glasgow kiss to the chest this year. :S
