Hello all.
I'm fairly new to Sleuth and I thought I might share a little hobby of mine with you all. Here's something for that sad moment when the mysteries of the day are all done.
Thousands lay up gold within this house,
but no man made it.
Spears past counting guard this house,
but no man wards it.
What is it?

"I am the black child of a white father;
A wingless bird, flying even to the clouds of heaven.
I give birth to tears of mourning in pupils that meet me,
and at once on my birth I am dissolved into air."
Cigarette smoke?

I haven't read this entire thread, but many of you may really like www.lateralpuzzles.com. It's a pretty sizeable community of folks and forums for lateral puzzle enthusiasts.
Don't let it detract from Sleuth, though.

A man enters a competition certain that he is going to win first place. He ends up placing third, yet he is very amused at doing so. Why was he amused?

Or maybe he took part in a tickling competition where the winner was the one who could stand being tickled the longest before laughing :D
