It would seem that when you get your contacts have less to do with how much experience you have and more with how many favours you manage to complete in succession. If you stay in the same city and solve every case and every favour you will get your contacts much quicker. Often two real life days at most.

Anyway, just reflecting. ;)

When I want to get a contact I usually take two days straight when I (to save time) solve only easy cases and the favours (incredibly hard). That gives me four favours a day for a total of eight. That normally gives me both contacts.

Okay, Okay. You were kissed by lady luck. I still have excruciating flashbacks of doggedly doing every last one of my cases for well over a week before getting a contact. Please, I'm getting bitter hearing about your good luck with contacts so frequently. But maybe that's just the DT's talking and the bitter taste is from the water someone made me drink.

Oh i wouldn't worry about it too much. The detecting gods will catch up with him someday.... You're not alone in having to spend days or multiple trips to get a contact. For me, time getting it isn't as important as getting the right one. And if you get the first one you succeed at but it really isn't useful (more of a problem for charming people I admit), then you're stuck and you wish you could do the whole process all over again (Hint Hint Ben!!!). Good luck Sunniva and all the others! L

I just now got my second contact on my first trip ever on the Sleuthetania. Just above two days this time, but that's only because I failed a favour on the first day and another on the second (because I was sitting at a café and couldn't concentrate xD ). Sheer persistence again pays off. Babble on about luck all you like. ;)

You know, I'm not sure I like you now, Zero. What is that? Two places where you got two contacts in two days? :P I've lost track of how often I've been on the boat, and I only JUST got my first contact this last trip!

Well, I don't know about anyone else, but I am jealous. ;)

Congratulations on your rapid gain of contacts!

Well I'm sorry you feel that way. The point wasn't to make anyone jealous. It was to present a theory that the speed in which you aquire your contacts wasn't experience based like has been speculated before. It started with myself testing out the idea that perhaps you got a contact at about 60 k xp (some have said that "the first contact seem to come at around 50 k") then a second at about 120 k (see Ben's statement about it being easier to get your second contact after 150 k). So basically I racked up the experience I needed to (if my theory was correct) go to a city and solve all my cases and favours (I solved easy ones for my cases in part to make sure I didn't fail any of them and missed a favour and in part to save time from such a boring, repetitive action, and it is quite hard to fail an incredibly hard case if you just concentrate and are economic with your questions). So I did and my contacts popped up like flowers in spring time. I thought "great, it worked" until I noticed my girlfriend following suit (easy x 3 + incredibly hard favour) even though she had less than half the xp I had and *still* got her contacts rapidly. So there. It's still just a theory although I'd add that for every city I visit and just rake in my contacts the probability that it's true increases. I should add that you need to succeed at *all* your cases and favours in a day (totaling four favours) to make it in two real life days. If you fail a favour or two it might take just a little bit longer. But unless you fail *alot* you should have them in three days. This is of course all from my own experience, and I think that those of you who have happened to take longer time are exceptions.

I usually am an exception. *sigh*

And I was totally joking there, Zero.

It is quite amazing what you have done, and I would agree that having high xp going in helps. I know I didn't the first times I went anywhere but Cairo, but, I barely spent a day in Cairo, so I haven't gotten any contacts. I'll have to see if it works for me there!

I noticed that you were joking, but wasn't sure to what extent. Good luck in Cairo, and I'm interested to hear any provings or clear disprovings of my theory.

hmmm. Ok so all this speculatin' on the speed at which you can gain a contact is indubitably fascinatin'. Many of us, looking back, would be a bit more cautious as we gained our contacts. Consider, if you like, that if you are male detective archetype that you might actually want male contacts, coz you don't have *flirting* as a 'kicker' stat during interviewing. Probably doesn't matter so much on normal townies, but PE contacts, yes it might.

Less haste more speed eh.

Of course. There are many reasons why the speed it's possible to gain contacts at can be considered irrelevant. I was just saying.

And I assume you meant a male detective would want male contacts because he *had* flirting (not "don't have") as a kicker stat, since that wouldn't help with the male townies anyway, yes?
