There have been some recent events on this game that warrant some concern. It’s no secret that there has been a lack of interest. Much of this may be attributed to the release of Shades of Mystery. If that is what people want to play, far be it from me to tell them not to play it.

That being said. I am still a paying customer of Sleuth Noir. As a paying customer there are some things that I expect. Ben has done a decent job at keeping the server up and running. We had a slight issue earlier in the week with not being able to travel and Ben did a great job of addressing the issue and getting it corrected. He always has done a great job of taking care of things. He has not however kept the game fresh and interesting. We recently had the expansion of the USS Sleuthetania. There was a buzz before the initial launch of it and we couldn’t wait to see what was in store for us.

Well what did we get? The opportunity to pay $20,000 to get on board of a ship and do nothing more than play cases. Sure there are some new characters and new items along with 2 new “coming soon” links. That’s it! I can’t help but to feel disappointed in the way this has played out. Two weeks later, the links are still coming soon and the interest of the boat has already gone away. I know I have no plans or reason to get on the boat and be cut off from my agency completely. I don’t know this for a fact, but I think a lot of people are disappointed with the boat as well and some may even be irritated and feel cheated by the whole development.

Maybe I’m being a bit harsh and we are missing some secret that still needs to be unlocked on the boat, but if people aren’t playing, the secret will not be unlocked. I know that Ben is just one person and can only do so much. He has a lot on his plate right now with running both SOM and Noir. I’m sorry, but SOM means absolutely nothing to me as I don’t play over there.

Just one ickle tiny thing which I think would be a great start is trying to get some of the oldies back for like a reunion. Livening the place up and getting the boards used would be a great small start that everyone can help with. I'm ready to sub here again so there's no saying how many others would be wanting to but are put off because of how quiet it is.

As for everything else I think we are maybe rushing it, lets do it one step at a time and let Ben have a think of what HE wants. It is after all his creation and baby :)

This thread has brought a lot of freshness and energy back to the boards.

I agree, Ms Helen - it would be great if some of the "legends" would drop back in - and perhaps "pull up a chair, 'set' a spell, and stay a while". :D

Sorry for being someone who seem to contribute to the rushing of things.
The reason are that I feel I am closing up on the end of my interest and will to involvement in this game, and would like my course to be changed to a renewing of interest.
I wanted to give something to the game, that everyone could benefit from, Ben included. But, it's true that someone pointed out, just that someone know how to code does not mean that you would be allowed to be in a development team. There is not even something certain if there is going to be a development team at all. Right now I am a little discouraged, and think that this will end in nothing, just as the previous attempts that have been posted by others earlier. I admit that I might have been hoping for an Utopia.
I will politely return to my previous not-so-visible position, and rather start to re-consider when I will release my automatic case-solving-assistant-program for free use for everyone, not giving anymore second thoughts about the sleuth server may be crashing because of the increased pressure, because I won't be there to see if it happens...
Sorry, I was just burning too hard for a period. :-(

ms. helen.... I think we may be able to organize something like that. I think we've done something like that pretty recently if I recall ;)

Lets go get some of our peeps back here!

Ok, before we have people heading for the hills permanently, and this whole process starts dying or going backwards, how bout we try something else while we wait patiently for Ben to make up his mind bout this whole development team idea.

I'm gonna blantantly steal Squirrel's idea from a while ago. Everybody think about all of the ideas that have been mentioned or that you've come up with. Now pick the ONE idea you'd most like to see implemented next (in other words, which one idea would you most like to see Noir work on next?). There's no right or wrong answers, and there's no guarantee any idea will be implemented. We're simply expanding this discussion in a (hopefully) constructive direction while Admin weighs their options.

Clock's ticking, Ben.

Go for it, people!

OK Breit. Good idea to keep the thread going. I'm not particularly creative and haven't thought of many ways to improve Noir because admittedly I took a significant chunk of time off from the game. But I do remember one thing that always peaked my curiosity. Those books! You know those books that we collect? When they first came out, Ben said that they were just for reading, for the time being, but they would play a bigger role later on. I am really intrigued as to what he originally had in mind, because unless something has changed, I believe they are still just for reading. Unless I am mistaken, there probably already is an "idea" floating out there with an expansion related to these books, and I for one would be very interested in exploring that.

On another note... without actually changing the game itself and developing expansions and programming, etc.... there are things that we can do as a community to liven the place up. I love Ms. Helen's idea of a reunion. Most of us over the years have fellow sleuthers' personal contact information and still even stay in contact with those who have left. I think it would be an excellent idea to try to get people back together (online) and perhaps even resurrect some interest in Noir by doing so. This is something that I definitely plan on working on with Ms Helen. There will be more to come.... :-)

I'd like to have a tree to climb in each city with a puzzle attached..... and / or ?! And there are many more directions to go! I'm just brainstorming in my own mind right now.

Able to be done or not, it doesn't matter at this point until we get the "Go ahead" to the people who can implement it.

Well, I'm reading everyone's comments and it dawned on me that my subscription ran out and that I stopped playing Sleuth myself. I don't know why it went dark after me. I can safely say that I love the game, but real life stuff just got me busy and I haven't been able to play. Therefore, I think it's safe to say that without me the game isn't worth playing for everyone else. I am the reason why Sleuth did so well, and why the game is now more abandoned.

I'd like it to be true when the unsubscribed are promised that subscribing will turn off banner ads.
- I feel it's a break of that promise that there is a banner ad comming up every time I have solved a case.
