Had a bit of an 'oops' come up. Over the last 2 weeks, I"ve been dealing with a rather excruciating migraine. Standard meds have done little to help. After several trips to the E.R., I suffered a fall and blow to my head, and briefly passed out. After extensive tests, MRIs and CAT scans, the doctors found a small thrombosis, or blood clot, in my brain.

I've had a stroke.

I was released from the hospital yesterday, and am now recovering at home. The doctors are treating the stroke aggressively, and working very hard to prevent a repeat occurrence. I have a great medical team, and my family has been wonderful through all of this.

I greatly appreciate all of your encouragement and support. It's going to take time for me to get back on my feet, and your interest and caring will be invaluable to me. I thank you for that!!

Hope all of you are doing well. Again, thank you. ;-)

Ditto what Ara said, Breit. I haven't been around much lately, and I was so sad to about your medical (and insurance!) struggles. It's very good to hear that things are slowly getting better. Take care.

It's been a couple weeks since I've written on here. Sorry bout that. Had a couple of things come up.

First off, the good news:

Finally got the insurance debacle figured out. YYAAYYY!!! ;-D So now the MRI my doc wanted done is scheduled for my birthday (Happy Birthday to me ;-), and the physical therapy starts the day after (another glorious present; oh boy!! ;-).

I'm back in my house, and no longer staying with my parents. My sister's staying with me for a bit, so I'm not totally alone. Missy's ecstatic to have me back, but she's rightroyally ticked off to have two roommate kitties to deal with--Schwarz, an eleven year old black shorthair that she's lived with before and gets along with fairly well, and Chou, a three year old black shorthair whippersnapper of a firecracker that drives her nuts every chance she gets. All in all, things are hoppin' 'round here. ;-)

I started practicing driving with my sister's help the last week. So far, I'm doing great according to her. Haven't built up the courage to go anywhere on my own yet, but she tells me it'll come.

Also have been doing a lot of logic work, word puzzles, and general brain stretching, and it seems to be helping. I've been having less problems with losing my balance and falling in the last couple of weeks and a lot less problems with headaches. Dunno if that's because of the puzzle stuff, but I figure it's not hurting. ;-)

Went to my doctor yesterday. She's very happy with my progress. She's put me on a 'maintenance' schedule, and I go back to see her in 3 months.
;-D

Now the not so good news:
(And the reason why I haven't been around much the last couple weeks)--I got a cold a couple weeks ago that turned into bronchitis. Went to my internist, and he put me on antibiotics and prescription cough medicine, and sent me to bed rest for a week and basic rest for two more after that. It seems to have worked, cause I'm doing much better now, but I am sorry I haven't been around to be here.

Hi again!

Just a quick update--

Been going to physical therapy four days a week most times the last three weeks or so. It's helped quite a lot. Every time I go, I concentrate and work as hard as you wouldn't believe to do the simplest things, but I leave there exhausted. So I come home and go to sleep. The therapist has suggested I use a cane for the next few weeks while I work on regaining my sense of balance, so I went out and bought one. Navy blue with bright yellow suns all over it. ;-D Everywhere I go, people tell me I've got the coolest cane they've ever seen. :-D :-D :-D

I just had a great Fourth of July weekend with my family. We had a barbecue with my parents, sister, an uncle, and several cousins. We all had a wonderful time!

Finally, I just nabbed my second Villain since the stroke. YYYAAAYYY me!!! :-D

I really appreciate all of your messages and good thoughts. They've helped more than you know, and I'm deeply grateful. THANK YOU!!!! ;-D

P. S. -- Missy's doing fine. She's finally gotten used to the whippersnapper, Chou, and no longer goes on the attack instantly every time she lays eyes on her. Chou, though, still does get incredible enjoyment from pushing her buttons, so we have a catfight round here at least once a day. Chou doesn't seem to mind in the slightest when she gets stomped flat into the floor. She loves coming back for more. Gotta wonder bout her....Anyway, my money's on the tiger. ;-)

Thanks for the update, Brietkat!

*Hawkeye eyes Breit's cane..."hmmm, that is quite kewl" :D

Congrats on the second AV hunt - can't think of a better way to exercise your little grey cells :)

Have to comment on your cats - we have four now (my daughter is a "rescuer" so I never know what to expect when I come home from work :) :) )

Our latest is also a "Missy" - but she is the whippersnapper in our family - bats at everyone, and expects all of the attention, because after all, she seems to say "I'm the baby, gotta love me"

Of course, her condition was soooooo awful when she arrived - thin unto death, flea-infested, quite pitiful - so it fills me with joy to see her so fat and sassy now. :D Our other three (older) cats have grown accustomed to her, it is almost as though they understand...

Breitkat, you are such an integral part of the Sleuth community, please continue to keep up updated on your progress, because we care for you :D

*Hawkeye playfully tickles 'his' own Missy, and returns to his growing caseload at the agency"

Hawkeye wishes Ben would enable posters to "edit" their posts in this forum - quite a common feature on other MMO forums

Glad to here you are doing well and that cane is so much cooler then mine. The MRI is no big deal as long as you arent claustrophobic, but it can be boring , I slept through my last one. I am hoping to be around more and its nice to get the updates. Keep up the good work and get well soon!
