What you drive tells something about you. Even if you drive a hoopdee, you chose it. What was your first car? What do you drive now?



My first car was a 2-door, 1962 Olds Cutlass F-85. It was parked in my neighbors field. I paid $50 for it, replaced the universal in the drive line and drove it away. I called it "La Bamba." If you stepped on the gas pedal to quick it went right to the floor and with that aluminum block engine it went from zero to 60 in the bat of an eye, slip it to neutral and the pedal popped back up. I put a $300 stereo in it that I had to take out whenever I parked it because I didn't a have key for the the doors. the trunk was wired shut with bailing wire. I loved that car.

Today I drive a 2005 Ford Ranger 4x4 XL off-road P/U . It stands kinda tall so I use the running boards to climb into it :-)

first was an Ford DelRey 1987,

and now i'm without a car...but not for so long....if someone wnat s to give me Shelbycobra...i will like hehehe...

My first car was a 1984 white Camaro with T-tops! It was beautiful...i had it all decked out, tinted windows...ground effects, the works :) Now, I have a 1999 Dodge Durango...and of course, with dark tinted windows :)

Well technically my first car was a Pinto hatchback you know the one that could blow up if hit from behind,but I never really got it.My Dad and stepmom broke up and she took it.So my first car was a Datsun station wagon I think somewhere around 70 something.It was green with other colors where they had replaced sections.I have to say that I met my husband with that car.It needed a tune up and I was coming out of a drivethru and it died.He was with some other friends and they pushed it into a parking space.When we saw each other face to face I knew it was love at first sight.We have been together for 24 years and married for 22.Well to get back on the subject.My car now is a '96 Cavalier.It is white and I have had it since new.

My first car was a 1986 Datsun 280zx, handed down from my father. Learned to drive a stickshift on it and still drive one today. Used to think I was really cool with the t-tops off and cruising up and down 1st street (1 block from the ocean). Took it to college and got to 180,000 miles on it and cried when I traded it in after i got my first job...

Now I have a Mazda Rx8 and i still think I am cool.. LOL!! My next one will be convertible...

While we're on the subject of transmission: what's so hard about driving stick! I've done it in my dad's car. It's not very hard.

Its not hard to drive a stick. If all the parts work correctly. Ever have to double clutch because of worn parts???? Thats an experience. Especially on a mountain pass. In Washington State.......Stevens pass ..ohhhh. You can see the totality of your life in 5 seconds. And then it catches and you're back on the road again. You pull over and kiss the ground, pray and change your pants.

But I didn't mean to digress......I want to hear about your 1st car............

Heh. I get the thing about the mountains in Washington State. One day, ask me about my hitch-hiking experiences there. But don't try to feel me up while I'm talking, like the guy with the ski mask and creepy Chevy Blazer did. For real I still don't trust SUVs.

So cars. I've never owned anything, technically. And for tax purposes I'd rather keep it that way. That being said, the first car I treated as my own was a 1994 Honda Accord. It was faster than the credits from a Pee-Wee Herman film on the Spanish Channel, and it got stolen from a cold street in Montreal in 1998. I happen to think that the wheels in which I currently roll are just the most rockin' ever. It's a little red 1992 Toyota Tercel and it has been parked in the same position for so long that the paint on one side is fading. We inherited it from Mrs. Patty's grandmother, who had mostly used it for Burger king runs, so it smelled a little like whopper sauce when we acquired it.

I'm sad though, because we're gonna need to junk it and buy a new one soon. In homage to the old one, I'm gonna smear some McDonald's on the front seat so it smells right.

My very fist car was bought in 2000 (prior to that I'd got by nicking my Mum's car when I needed to go places). It was a Suzuki Swift, bit less than a 1 litre engine, cheap, manual gear box. Not really any mod cons.

The best thing was it was the kind of car that no one would nick. It got a little bashed about, I learnt that things like a cracked bumper were to prices to replace when ever you came out of the shops to find some had reversed into you and left. The town I worked in at the time was renowned to boy races stealing cars, zooming around and then burning them out.

So the Swift was perfect. Nippy and very fuel efficient.

7 years though and it was a bit wonky so I brought a new style Vauxhall Corsa club. Air con! Great!!!! It's a fantastic car but a little slower on accelerating than the swift but I would total recommend one to someone looking for a small car. It’s still good on the fuel efficiency to.

I’ve driven automatics to. Not for me, I like the variety of a manual and it makes things a little less dull.

Hey crunch, why don't you tell us about your hitchhiking experiences in Washington State? (Hey you said one day to ask you, this day is a s good as any) ;-)

And before anyone gets any ideas, I am NOT the guy in the creepy Chevy Blazer in a ski mask! Yes I do drive a Chevy Blazer, but I have never been to Washington State and I don't even own a ski mask!

I got my first car in 1994. It was a 1987 VW Polo C 1.0 in white. It couldn't pull you out of bed. I was a student when I owned it and didn't have a clue how to look after cars, so it was a heap in no time.

I now own a 1990 Lotus Elan SE Turbo in Red. It's err... not for the faint hearted... and slightly cursed. It's the unluckiest car I have ever owned. It had a roof fall on it in a storm, smashing up the windscreen and the front (and giving it the nickname Tyler... Tiles, geddit?). I got a puncture on the way to my friends wedding rehersal (where I was best man)... the evening before the wedding... giving me a few hours in the morning to find a new tyre so I could get him to the church on time! Door hinges cracking through the fibreglass frame, and a shunt up the rear of a Corsa that really should not have still been there have seen it has seen it in the repairers more often than it's out. I was warned that Lotus stood for Loads Of Trouble Usually Serious, and they weren't wrong.
On a sunny day with the roof down, tearing through the country roads, I forgive it though... :)
