I could use some help here. I have run into many different factions from my limited time playing the game. I belong to the Order of Socrates, I think? Anyway, what, in your opinion is the best faction, and what are they based off of in real life?

For example, La Cosa Nostra was a real mafia at one point in time. It was Italian and its name meant "The Little House".

I'm guessing that the Dies de Arcanum Brotherhood is the Opus Dei,but I'm just guessing. What are your ideas?

Don't really have any ideas on the factions and don't think there is any one that is the best, all depends on what skill you want to learn.

One thing about La Cosa Nostra though is that they were not Italian, they were Sicilian.

From what I can see of your profile, yes, you're currently affiliated with the Order of Socrates.

There is no 'best' faction here. All have their good points and their bad ones. It simply depends on what skills, equipment or gear, treasures, or other stuff you wish to pursue with them, and which city you happen to be in.

La Cosa Nostra actually translates to "Our Thing", not 'Our House' in Italian. While the names are the same between the Sleuth Faction and the real-life underworld group, the one here tends to be less terroristic and dictatorial. In short, there's not much similarity between the two.

The other faction that has a real-life counterpart is the Eastern Triads. They also share a name with a real-life counterpart, yet don't tend to be quite as....intimidating, as in real-life.

The other six are prob'ly based on real-life, and there's specualtion as to the sources for some, but their exact roots are unknown.

Thanks David Adams. It is good to know that there is no "best" faction. I was pretty sure that La Cosa Nostra meant "little house" because in Spanish "house" is "casa". I have been studying Spanish for several years and a lot of the words are very similar to Italian.

The literal translation of La Cosa Nostra is "This Thing of Ours" it is loosely translated to "Our Thing" I did research on it years ago and am still intrigued by the Mafia.

For years, everyone that was a part of any Sicilian crime family, denied the existense of La Cosa Nostra. They had secret rites to "make" a man in the organization.

The Italian/Sicilian language is similiar but there is dialect that comes into play.

I know this as my Mom is Sicilian and Dad is Italian. There is a bigger difference than one might think

I have answers!!

The Triad, also known in china as "the black society," is an all-encompassing term for criminal organizations/underground society. It still exists, all over the globe, today.
