As a 'tough and smart' detective, you'll be best served with items that increase your skills points in those areas. You might want to wait until you have been given more items for doing favors so you can sell them and use that money toward purchasing an item with higher skill points for toughness and/or smarts. The higher your skill level in those two areas, the better luck you'll have when interviewing suspects and searching for physical evidence. Whatever you decide, I would just suggest that you keep enough money to pay bribes and pay off the Shady Character to clear your record if you falsely accuse anyone. Hope that helps some!

I also would suggest you keep the money. Nothing at the detective shop is very useful to you. I would wait until you get good gear from your favors.

thanks that helps, but we can only keep 2 things as favors, so which basically is considered "good"?

You get to keep two accessories, one hat and one coat/vest. When you win something new just see if it is more useful to you than what you already have. The higher the level of favor (and they go up automaticaly with your skill/how many favors you have worked) the better the equipment you are given.

Also, as Clarice said be sure you have enough money to pay off Shady, and his prices go up as your experince does.

Another good way of getting equipment is purchasing through your faction. The better they like you the cheaper the prices, but you have to get up to a score of 30 or higher for the cheapest prices.

Hope that helps!

I would advise not to buy anything from a faction, unless you are great on it.

Otherwise it has pretty bad return of investment.
