Ok I have posted a couple times in various threads on this, but since they keep getting bumped off, and ive spoken to several more people about this, I thought it should have its own thread and get the opinion of the community.

The games are fun, in my opinion, but they are taking up the entire first page of the boards, and deterring people from posting anything else, knowing its going to be buried in two seconds by Word Chain, Three Word Story, or one of the other bazillion game threads.

I wonder if it would be possible, to maybe make a NEW board, specifically for these games, so we ALL can enjoy the boards?

Please discuss, everyone. Thanks!

I love this idea. I don't mind the games either but there are so many games now that it would be nice for them to have a board to themselves.
That way it's easier for everyone to find what they want more quickly.

i support the idea...too many good threads get buried onto page 2 and beyond, and die a quick death.

the nature of the games make it so that anyone can post, anytime, and without end, so that is why they always end up on top. they are fun in their own right, but create an imbalance in the appearance of the subject matter of the board.

Nice Wrapping
Three Word Story
Word Chain
Post Baseless Lies
Corrupt a Wish
^>v Game
Better Lesser Equal
Good Bad or Ugly
ESP Insults

I just skimmed through the past week or so's worth of posts on this board, and found those all making a showing. And that's not even including the "everyone reply to the same question" sorts of threads we have in wild abundance here ("What'll it be mate?", "I Loved My Sister", etc).

Boo games, yay random off-topic chat!

Agreed.

My 'only' question - and it's probably one for after - is: what's a game?
Word Chain - yes. I love my sister coz that's how I roll' - probably yes. Nice wrapping - an adult game?

I wouldn't want people getting pissed off because their post has been trivialised into a 'game'. Because lets face it some of the things in Gumshoe that aren't games are pretty trivial too. heh.

I would think it would be sort of up to the Mods, who have the power to move things across boards. I would say I love my sister and nice wrapping are not games, IMHO, cuz they don't go on forever the way the others do.

I would think it is up to the mods just like any other time is thread is moved to a more appropiate board.

From Wikipedia:

"A game is a structured or semi-structured activity, usually undertaken for enjoyment. Key components of games are goals, rules, challenge, and interactivity. Games generally involve mental or physical stimulation, and sometimes both. Many games help develop practical skills, serve as a form of exercise, or otherwise perform an educational, simulational or psychological role."

"A conversation is communication by two or more people, often on a particular topic. Conversations are the ideal form of communication in some respects, since they allow people with different views of a topic to learn from each other.

Conversers naturally relate the other speaker's statements to themselves, and insert themselves (or some degree of relation to themselves, ranging from the replier's opinions or points to actual stories about themselves) into their replies. For a successful conversation, the partners must achieve a workable balance of contributions. A successful conversation includes mutually interesting connections between the speakers or things that the speakers know. For this to happen, conversers must find a topic on which they can relate in some sense."

well, someone shouldn't feel trivialised if their thread is put in a game thread. some of the games people have come up with are quite clever and fun. And we all love this great game that we play: Sleuth

Hmm - I'm not so sure myself....

I have wandered into a number of conversations of both types that have gone off at a tangent- mainly due to some sort of argument about a Personal Message that has been going on over the past few days. To be honest, there is a bit of an atmosphere around here. The games at least give us a chance to be civil to one another - I would leave things as they are.

I have no problem with a separate board for game threads, and I wouldn't feel it was being trivialized at all by being "categorized" as a game. I think the important thing is that everyone can find the threads they wish to participate in easily. If something gets started on one board and after a time the mods feel it should be moved to another board, I don't feel that's a great issue either. Happens. The point is to have fun playing.
