Swapping Items

Just a short post in which I would like to bring to discussion the recent spate of swapping items between agencies. I believe this is certainly unethical and takes away much of the challenge of the game. For obvious reasons I cannot be too specific, but it does not reward hard work and organisation, just laziness. It also abuses what the locker function is all about.
Obviously you cannot ban people from trading things between agency lockers and calling it unethical is not going to stop people doing it.
I would like to hear the Sleuth community's thoughts on the issue, I may be in the minority but from my initial feedback I feel like this has caused some distatste amongst some members.
Should the majority find this practice unethical I propose a 72hr cooloff period for locker access in agencies after having been promoted to agent or higher. This would also to a certain extent prevent immediate hit and run thefts that have happened from time to time.
Discuss :)

Well, I'm too new to even participate in the AVL, or even hunt a villain, but it seems to me that player-run events such as this spread out the idea that guilds are the only sort of team available. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the AVL represents cooperation/competition from players in many guilds.
If would therefore follow, at least to me, that Biggie has the right idea in putting these "swaps" out in the open. If there's going to be a "black market" in desirables, and I can't see how that could be stopped, then an "open market" would allow anyone with a very desirable, but not so useful for the detective type, to trade or share with another detective regardless of guild.
It would certainly help those "lone wolf" types as well. I hope I'm not offending anyone by stating my opinion, none intended, but I've seen a lot of games ruined by "under the table" trades/alliances, etc.

It's not like I am getting anything more out of trading than those who are not trading - I'm simply trying to get it in a more timely manner.

Good point Cynder, and well said :)
I would be ok with it being out in the open, it becomes an issue when its done all stealthy :)
Also, having just seen SS's earlier post about trading AV Hunt equipment, I think that is also a good thing, since it IS out in the open, and you get very limited choices as to your reward.
At this point, I can now kind of see both sides and am retracting my earlier opinions until Ben weighs in on this subject :)

Cynderbear suggests a very valid idea. Either integrate a board specifically for the open market, or upgrade the detective shops like in other games so that items sold to them are available for purchase at their listed price. Even consider auctions...
I know this is a hot-button issue. If my words and actions have insulted or offended anyone in any way, I truly am sorry. I didn't intend this argument and feel somewhat responsible for it. I hope that those who know me in this community realize that I have done about as much as anyone can do to globalize the community beyond agencies. And the debate at hand, and Cynderbear's suggestion, seem to me like a way to take the whole community that step forward in camaraderie.

*agrees with Serges and has warm and fuzzy feelings coursing through her*
I would like to see something more community integrated, not pitting everyone against each other as well.

Actually Serges, that idea rock!!!!! I wonder how hard it would be to implement

honestly, I can say from similar experience that it would SUCK to implement :)
The easiest solution would be the new board. The coolest would be auctions.
I say we calm down on the idea, let Ben take some of this in, and let HIM choose the direction the game should go. It's his work to be done, after all.
***doesn't intentionally mean to sound like Ben's personal sycophant, but the AVL has opened his eyes on how much his job sucks sometimes***

We could do auctions on a board?

Just a couple of additions. You can have access to most of the regular favor gear from all levels by visiting the fence at Big Lucy's in New York. Its kind of random what's on offer, but if you visit Lucy often enough - you can usually find the odd white lab coat or whatever...
I always feel sympathy for the lone wolves who virtually have to open a single detective 'agency' just to have office space for cases and a locker. I remember some agents who have done just that. I have been an advocate for a cheap one-person office for a long time. Also for the small agencies (I've advocated mini-hunts for smaller agencies so they would have something to compete for). Still would like to see that.
I wouldn't mind a market - which would open trading items to folks across agencies as well as singles and (dare I say) unsubscribed agents. Entering an agency just to make a trade makes me a little uncomfortable, though I don't see it as major ethics violation. Trading would still tend to favor more experienced (and/or richer) agents - but there are always some perks to having played alot.
That said, I love the game and new twists - and although Ben & Sunny have not chosen to go my route in the past - they have still made an awesome game.

The general principle could be handled on the boards, definitely!
Good idea Jimmy(Jojo).
