john, don't worry, as Secret_Squirrel said. obviously from this thread, it happens to lots of people, newbies or the very experienced. and it happens for good reasons and dumb reasons.

i made a false on probably my 5th case. I made my second (and last) false after like 150 cases and the nooo went to the power of oooooo (lol, SS) really fast as soon as i found out what it cost to clear it : )

anyway, glad to have you here.... stay good : )

hello! ehm..false accusations....a lot..had like 3 detectives with revoked licences..now I've started again..<looks like this game is addictive..> and still haven't made any false accusations..have like 9 solves and 2 quits..I started the free featured case...damn that one was blurry... Can someone..ehm..explain what's the deal with Shady? I didnt know you could erase your records..or is that only for the paying detectives?

Nope it's for all :) if you visit the bar in New York, and then approach Shady when you have a false, he'll offer to wipe it from the Sleuthville records if you pay him $'s. $'s are based on your experience points. It's somewhere between 20-25% from memory. ie 100 exp = $20-25 (I think...)

Also... it's cheaper paying Shady in Delhi. London or New York are the most expensive.

It is MUCH cheaper to pay Shady in Delhi! I saved 80k on my last one. (and hopefully it will BE my very last one!)

Although I will say that it is only cost effective for the more experienced detectives to pay for traveling to Delhi. So, if you owe Shady $1000, it doesn't make sense to pay $2, 3, or 4,000 to travel to save $100 or so.

Secret Squirrel... This is what Ben said about Shady and his prices, it's from one of the Subscriber Center threads.

"Your experience determines the price for clearing your record. It is not, however a linear formula. When a detective has relatively lower experience, they will often have to pay a price higher than their experience level. At higher experience, the ratio actually drops. That is, the rate of increase of the price does not keep up with the rate of increase of experience. So, at a certain point, the price drops below the detective's experience.
The reasoning behind that drop is, the monetary rewards for cases is basically a linear function, while the experience rewards are geometric. Therefore, a detective completing higher level cases earns relatively more experience than money, when compared to a detective doing easier cases."

I have none, but only because I only accuse if I'm 100 percent sure. I just had my first case where everybody clammed with 2 potential suspects left.

1 suspect I had a false alibi but no W.E. or P.E. - with the shopkeepers clamming before I could eliminate the suspect.

1 suspect clammed before I could get alibi information, and I had 1 W.E.

I therefore had a 50-50 chance of picking the right one or getting my first false.

Choosing discretion over valor, I quit the case! (I hear Monty Python characters singing...Brave Sir AL Z ran away!)

That was my closest call so far, but I'm only doing Very, Very Hard Cases at this point. I'm sure I'll get some falses once I get to the next tier of case difficulty.
