Pop to me as well, though some would call it Cola. The better question is what you call the case the cans come in. In Canada we call cases very different things, from a flat (24 cans of beverage), to a two four, to a box, and the obscure suitcase.

both: soda pop
actually when I was growing up (utah/colorado), everyone said coke as a general term for soft drink. like kleenex for tissue.

In Britain, a lot of people wouldn't know what you meant if you asked for a soda. Pop sounds very childish - it's the name fizzy drinks are called in Beano and Dandy comics and the like. Generally, we call them fizzy drinks : o )

I call it both. Typically in the United States it is called "Soda" on the East Coast and "Pop" in the midwest. I'm from the midwest, but went to school on the east coast, so i call it both.
I think someone told me once that they call it "Dr. Pepper" in the south, because that drink is so popular there. can anyone confirm that?

True true, strange would that also count for the upper mid-west, orbi? I speak Minnesotan, but would say "Soda." This could however be, as I learned my English in various parts of the north-american continent and TV. I spent the majority of time in the upper mid-west and Canada though.
I unintentially pick up other peoples dialects and way of speaking. It sounds like I am making fun of people, but I am really not.
M.Zane....you mean Sweet Tea. :)

Im from Ohio..we say pop here. My fiance` is originally from Alabama, and his kids live there so when we go visit, and I ask for a pop they look at me as if Im weird. They say "drink" down there. If I said drink here, they would think Im asking for an alcoholic beverage :)
