Favors - no guarantee?

Is it correct that favors are not guaranteed each day? I am not subscribed, so most days I get my 3 cases + 1 favor.
On some occasions when I've made a mistake, I haven't gotten a favor that day and have assumed it was an additional penalty along with the 'black mark.'
I can often find someone needing a favor after 2 correctly solved cases. Today, at that point nobody had anything. While working on case #3, still nobody needed a favor. I eventually had to quit that case, and still nobody was asking.
I have never been refused a favor after 3 correctly solved cases...so I'm guessing there's some type of formula involved that includes wrong guesses or quits.
Can anyone give further details?

*doubles over in laughter as she tries to decipher Rock's information and looks over at the baffled Moonshh*
*takes a deep breath and straightens herself*
I think, if you read it a bit like an algebraic equation Moonshh, all those numbers up there hold the key to the mystery "I only did two cases and have a favor, yipee!"
But, like you, I'm too tired to try to work it out.
*gives Rock a big hug and leaves before she needs a tylenol*

I understand, Rock. If, starting from scratch, I solve 3 cases but skip my favor, I could solve a 4th...do a favor...then solve just 2 more and have another favor waiting for me.
Good to see forgetfulness isn't necessarily held against a detective in these situations.
To take it a step further (and for fun to further confuse Moonshh) ;), do favors continue to pile up if they are unused? For example, if a newbie has solved 10 cases and just discovered what favors meant, could s/he find 3 consecutive favors waiting?

that one would be a no last train. Sometimes if i am in a hurry i deliberately don't do favors, i've gone days without doing them, but i always only have that one favor waiting for me, then its more cases before another one

Exactly...like I have the Pod right now as a favor that Ive been holding for a couple days. That favor will stay there until I do it...no new ones pop up.

sorry last train. I tried that--worth a shot,eh?
but I (only tried this twice-so I may be off) did 6 and it only worked as if I had done 3. 7 cases acted like 4. ect

Um, so Rock, what DID your information mean? Could you try explaining it again, if you still think it's accurate?
*Moonshh, not too proud to say she's still baffled*
