XD
Im sorry i didnt post anything, i think my computer refreshed before i could....
Anyway, i surf the net on a dial-up modem connection and my friend wants me to download this huge file, well, huge because of the time it'll take, and i just dont have the time to do it without turning off the computer. It's 138 mbs big and it takes approx 19.5 hours to download, which is way to long. i was wondering if it was possible to shorten this time, and if not, if i would be able to burn something like this to a single cd so i can put it on my computer at home after downloading it from a faster connection from a friend.

your friend may be able to compress the file before transferring it to you over modem. if they can't or don't know how, it can be put on cd and then you can put it on your computer. you may want to use a CD-RW for that, then you can reuse the cd. :-)

It will hold on a CD, generally they old 650MB or more. Or are you saying it needs 138 MB per second to then download for 19.5 hours, which is 138x60 seconds x 60 minutes x 19.5 hours = uhm a lot. :) You wrote mbs, which mega bits per second. If it is 138 MB he can burn it on a CD and send it to you. If it is 138 mb per second, I suppose he needs to send on a small server. :)
Perhaps he can upload to gmail, or an ftp server, and you can view it else where.

Have him use WinZip to zip it into a .zip file.

That will lessen the size.

Depends what it is, some files are really hard to reduce with winzip, like very large powerpoints or ms-project. If you don't have winzip installed, it probably takes a long time to download that too.
