Lines from a song

So a while back, there was a very short-lived thread on the message boards entitled "lines from a book". But the guy who started it just really doesn't play well with others and every post on it (including my own) sort of comes off like literary snobbery.

That's no way to build community. It occurred to me a little earlier that the literary form most (particularly young) people know best is popular song. Plus I'm sure I'm not the only one who could use a few leads on interesting music. So show us a bit of lyrical wizardry. The lines don't have to be deep, but try to keep them interesting. And SHORT! No pee breaks allowed :)

For example:

"You're in his car getting high
pair of fuzzy dice in the dashboard light
Supertoke and the smoke is in his eyes
Your head is swimming with the anticipation.

Suddenly, you're puking out the window
with your pants around your knees.
But he's a nice boy, so he drops you on your street"

Lyrics from the song 'Almost Summer', by Jason Collett,

Well the song lines I want to post aren't deep, but I do like them and enjoy singing/listening to them at this time of year. Anyone who knows it please join me in singing:

Dashing through the snow
In a one horse open sleigh
O'er the fields we go
Laughing all the way
Bells on bob tail* ring
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to laugh and sing
A sleighing song tonight
(chorus)
Jingle bells, jingle bells,
Jingle all the way;
Oh! what fun [joy] it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.

Oar your own damn fields!

Oh wait.

Umm.

*stabs toe into the ground and pouts*

yeah what I MEANT to say was "Thank you Lady Z for keeping this alive".

No-one likes someone who's trying to be deep when shallow and cool is just as good. I do believe that the most popular lyrics of all time are these:

Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birhday dear (your name here)
Happy Birthday to you.

Sing for the ones you love.

On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night
There she stood in the doorway;
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself,
’this could be heaven or this could be hell’
Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor,
I thought I heard them say...

Welcome to the hotel california
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
Plenty of room at the hotel california
Any time of year, you can find it here

Crickets are chirpin', the water is high
There's a soft cotton dress on the line hangin' dry
Window's wide open, African trees
Bent over backwards in a hurricane breeze
Not a word of goodbye, not even a note
She's gone with the man in the long black coat.

Somebody seen him hangin' around
At the old dance hall on the outskirts of town
He looked into her eyes when she stopped him to ask
If he wanted to dance, he had a face like a mask
Somebody said from the bible he'd quote
There was dust on the man in the long black coat.

Preacher was talking, there's a sermon he gave
He said every man's conscience is vile and depraved
You cannot depend on it to be your guide
When it's you who must keep it satisfied
It ain't easy to swallow, it sticks in the throat
She gave her heart to the man in the long black coat.

There are no mistakes in life, some people say
It's true sometimes you can see it that way
But people don't live or die, people just float
She gave her heart to the man in the long black coat.

There's smoke on the water, it's been there since June
Tree trunks uprooted 'neath the high crescent moon
Feel the pulse and vibration and the rumbling force
Somebody is out there beatin' on a dead horse
She never said nothing, there was nothing she wrote
She gone with the man in the long black coat.

Juliet

You're in my stars you know
Don't need no crystal ball to tell me so
Whispering in the air
Hoping that my words find you somewhere
Even when I close my eyes
I'll never recreate the time that flies
The consequence is hanging there
The sky will fall but I don't care

Chorus:
Meet me beneath my balcony and say
No one but you could ever fill my night
Be the sunlight in my every day
Underneath my balcony I'll say
No one but you could ever fill my night
Be the sunlight in my every day

Your love is haunting me
And all I want is more to set me free
Whispering in the air
Hoping that my words find you somewhere
Do you hear me call your name
I know we will never be the same
The consequence is hanging there
The sky will fall but I don't care

Chorus

Sunny Day
Sweepin' the clouds away
On my way to where the air is sweet

Can you tell me how to get,
How to get to Sesame Street

Come and play
Everything's A-OK
Friendly neighbors there
That's where we meet

Can you tell me how to get
How to get to Sesame Street

It was a toss up between this and the opening theme from Miami Vice . Actually I don't quite know the lyrics to Miami Vice. Are there lyrics?

Lost among the recesses of the undefined
Ethereal psychotic haze
Seemeingly endless is the fall
No stable memories to recall
(You came and took the rest of them all)
No sre warning ever heard
You are fragile

When you expect the pain
Nothing more to ascertain
When you respect the lie
Deadly chasm opened wide

Victim of the killers seething in the depest mind
Ever existing out of phase
Steadily falling out of line
No trace of living left to find
(You came to make me one of your kind)
Don't leave me here
Please don't leave me here
Gave me so much to fear
You've left me with such pretty scars...
