For all who wants to know how the faction skills work, I report an old jstkdn post:

Hypotism: each case some suspects you can hypnotize in giving more suspects. Which means you have to ask less questions to the suspects.

Pugilism: enhances tough.

Pick pocketing: allows you to keep the money of the client is the guilty one.

Surveillance: you can hide outside of one suspects house, and sometimes get the answer to an extra question.

Underworld connection: for that escaped suspect thing.

Safe cracking: only useful if you are in an agency. Allows you to take the last key in treasure hunts that involves keys.

A big "thank you" to jstkdn for this.

What level do you have to get to with the faction in order to learn the skill?
15-20-30? Thanks.

I just got the skill under world connections from the eastern triads. What I want to know is how is this skill useful? Only when someone goes missing? Does it enhance my very tough skills? Can it help me with the feature stories?

All it does is bring back a suspect who has gone into hiding. Less running around trying to find out which townie knows where they are. It was one of the last faction skills I got, and I didn't think it would really rock my world, but I *love* it now!

As for featured mysteries, no idea if it works there. Might depend on the FM.

I thought it is not possible to travel to other cities if you are not subscribed. But I saw some profiles where it seems the users are unsubscribed but still have contacts abroad.

How is that possible?

You must be subscribed to travel. But if your subscription lapses, you keep the contacts you've earned in different cities--you just can't travel anymore.

At which faction can you find stuff for though, for charm and for smart skills?

I have another question here. I am a very tough detective, and my status is I think 24 with the order of Socrates. I believe this was a mistake because they don't have any though stuff, only mindcracking things. If I want to get the real though stuff, where to go to, Cosa Nostra or Brotherhood? My guess Cosa nostra. And is it best to get that first special skill from the order of Sorcates, because otherwise all this effort will be for nothing.
And then maybe try to get in good favor for the cosa nostra because I need extra thougening skills...
Thanks

Yes, Cosa Nostra have some good tough gear, but the skill they provide is only useful for people in agencies and it's not something that helps increase toughness either. The Green Hand has a tough skill, but again you need to be subscribed to get that as the Hand isn't in NY :)
