Lock Picking or Research? Just wondering if you pick a lock, are you able to steal some money or items? What about research? Can you find clues in the city hall? The skills help doesn't states clearly.

Jake, it's available to all archetypes. In fact, all skills are, just maybe for different amounts of skill points. So, happy researching!

Pick Pocketing-the discription on the help menu in the selecting skills section is really good and specific. It will only help you get the $$ that is really yours. So it makes it so a client can't rip you off before going to the Green Mile.
All Skills are avalible to all detectives. You archetype will make those skill cheaper to you.
Example: Tough and smart
Normally 12 points turns to 10, in the Smart AND the Tough skills. Charming skills would stay 12.
Example: Very Tough
Normally 12 points turns to a lovely 8! but only in the Tough skill set. In the Charming AND the Smarts, it would stay set at 12.

I think Pick Pocketing does its magic during Almost Impossible cases, when the rewards are items.

That was weird, after learning the pick pocketing skill, NONE of my clients turned to be the murderer. Kinda regreted... I've 9 skills pts now, should I learn lock picking at 10pts or hypnotism at 12pts? Which is better? Can anyone tell me what's does it mean by " The deep subconscious often holds secrets veiled from the waking mind"? Tks alot!

Both can give you some extra suspects, or in case of lock picking either extra suspects or an alibi. Both resulting in having to ask a suspect less questions.

I am tempted to say lock picking, for the simple reason that you never know up front which suspect can be hypnotised. But you can see who's door is locked. And of course, as it is only 10pts for you.

If you don't have research, get research first.

That's just me. Others may disagree.

All skills are available to all archetypes!
The difference is the points that you have to spend on a skill! Now.. i dont remember how many you will need for the research..

There is another difference. Lockpicking ALWAYS works, once you have the skill. You get the opportunity generally twice per case, at least in the higher levels, so those are two suspects you can potentially save a question from. You don't know, when you pick the lock, whether you will get alibi information or motive information, and sometimes you have all your suspects already or you don't need to know that person't alibi, so you can't be sure it's useful information, but at least it always functions and is "free" once you have the skill.

Hypnotism is potentially more useful in getting motives, but it will never get you alibi information. It is a skill that is applied automatically every time you ask about motive, but it doesn't always work. If you are charming and wearing good charming accessories, you have higher chances of success, but if you are wearing all tough gear, hypnotism doesn't work very often. So for a tough detective, I believe lock picking is better than hypnotism for practical reasons, not because it's cheaper in skill points or something.

And, as a charming detective, I love lock picking, too. It really irked me when I couldn't pick those locks! In fact, I got the skill before hypnotism, myself.

Research is good for everyone, and with a new detective, I would get Research before either lock picking or hypnotism.

Good luck!
