Hello everyone. I’ll be hosting another game of Resistance, and I encourage all lurkers from the previous game(s) to come out and play! We’ll keep it simple with just gameplay and no story this time. And if you’ve never played before, feel free to jump right in, because we all need more imaginary problems to worry about. :)

The game takes place over a series of 5 "missions." The Resistance is trying to complete 3 missions successfully, while the spies are attempting to sabotage 3 missions. First one to 3 wins.

I will serve as game master. Once we get enough people to play (5-10 total), I will PM everyone their allegiance (either "Resistance" or "Spy"). If you are a "Spy," I will also PM you the names of your co-conspirators.

A "leader" will be chosen at random for the first mission. The leader has 2 important functions:
1) The leader will assign various "role" abilities to players. These are one-shot special powers a player can use to learn more information about someone.
2) The leader will assign players to the "team" for that mission.

Missions will have a varying number of players who are selected; the leader picks a team, then every player will vote on whether or not they approve the team by PMing me. Once all the votes are cast, I will post the voting results. If a majority approves the team, the mission starts. If not, the mission does not start, and the next player in line becomes the new "leader" for that round. This continues until either a mission is approved, or 5 consecutive mission teams are rejected (in which case the spies win automatically.)

Once a mission team is approved, those players will PM me their choice of action during that mission. Resistance players will ALWAYS choose to have the mission succeed by sending "Success," while spies have a choice: they can either elect to have the mission succeed (to throw off suspicion), or they can "Sabotage" the mission.

When I expressed my thoughts on Aspen's team, I was okay with having Aspen on the team too because it was her pick and apparently even I can't be a total control freak. :P I don't really suspect Aspen of being a spy right now though, I'm ~80% sure she's Resistance. I think this team will be easier to read though. I was going to go with the same team minus Sal plus Aspen at one point though. I definitely wouldn't pick Sindy to be on a team right now though; I'm not out-and-out accusing her of being a spy, but I'm waaay more comfortable with this team. I don't know, this is how she always plays as a spy, although I will admit I don't know what her playing as Resistance would be like either. I even considered miss snopes, but that could be the previous game influencing me. With Sal on the team, I'm hoping you can all discuss (I will be away for the majority of the rest of this week - I'll still log in everyday and try to vote and punch out posts on my phone, so please try listening to me when my posts are short; I needed to start being concise at *some* point. :P) various ways he could use his powers. SPOTLIGHT is a pre-mission-vote card while KEEPING... is a post-mission-result card. I don't even mind if everybody thinks it should be used on me, although I would really prefer it if it was used on either Ty or Sal himself. shell seems very Resistance to me right now; if that's an act, kudos! :D There's not been much to go on (well, that's not true; it's just not been a long time), but I tried voicing a few unpopular opinions just to get everybody to talk a little more than usual and there were quite a few posts after that, which is what I've based my team pick on.

Oh, again: Ty, I picked this team swapping Sindy out for shell and I think it was you, Sal, and Sindy on that first mission. A variation, I agree, but one I think is more likely to be clean.

VOTE YES FOR ME! :D :P

Oh, also, using SPOTLIGHT would allow spies to coordinate their votes to their liking, while with KEEPING... they wouldn't know which vote will be looked at until after they've all voted anyway. But SPOTLIGHT makes the mission (SUCCESS/SABOTAGE) vote public while with KEEPING..., the user (i.e., Sal) will be PMd with the info and it would be Sal's choice to reveal or manipulate the info he gives us on the boards. But that wouldn't be so bad either, because it would link Sal and the person he uses the card on, and be great for future deductions! If Sal wants to use a card on himself though, it'd have to be SPOTLIGHT, because KEEPING... would just give him info he already has in a PM (if it's in a PM, what he shares with us on the boards needn't necessarily be true and if you're Resistance, Sal, you know that impacts you if you're trying to clear yourself).

I have a lot I'd like to say about this, but I'm going to keep my thoughts to myself as I don't want to be accused of trying to influence votes on this team in anyway.

Thank you for the enlightenment, Bela.
I have a suspicion that Sal might be a spy, so far he is not playing his usual stlye of play whenever he's been resistance. But having said that, this team makes the most sense to me, for the very reasons Bela sighted.

I might be lost somewhere in your post, Bela. So I cannot get your point properly. Why don't you pick Aspen while you said you 80% believe her? And even if Sal is not in the team, he can still use the card on the team also. So what is the advantage of taking him into this team?

I am sorry but I found myself unconvinced by your idea, Bela. As I said, I prefer a team based on the previous successful team, not a totally new team. So if there is no change, I'm gonna vote NO for this team. However, I will wait until the very last moment to vote so you can make me change my mind if you want. Because as I view, you are a very experiencing player. So it's better if we can get each other well.

Hi Bela, I’m trying to make sense of where you’re coming from - but I just can’t. For example:

“I don't really suspect Aspen of being a spy right now though, I'm ~80% sure she's Resistance.”
Based on what? I have to agree with Ty on this.

Also: “I think this team will be easier to read though.” Why? Aspen in v Aspen out surely doesn’t carry that degree of weight?

You’ve also said (in an earlier post): “we need to win 3 missions, sussing out who the spies are is supposed to be incidental.” Lol - how do we win the missions without actively trying to suss out who the spies are and excluding them from teams? I’m going to resurrect Sindy’s term here - *disingenuous*

I’m almost certain that this mission will be SABOTAGED and, in a bizarre way, that’s also why I’ve voted YES for this mission team. We are in dire need of some substantial evidence. I think you may have chosen a team that allows you to be the only spy on it and thus to hide your SABOTAGE vote amid a selection of Resistance players. If there are two SABOTAGE votes - wow, that will be something.

You’ve also talked a lot about how people played their role as spy or resistance in previous games - and how you’re comparing this to their current game play in order to assess which side they’re on. I think this is probably a good idea. In which case, I have to say that last time you were RESISTANCE and your ‘personality’ on the game thread was very different indeed. Just saying.

But hey, wouldn’t it be wonderfully ironic if you now voted NO for your own team selection? That would really throw the cat among the pigeons. Go on, I dare you ; )

Sal - thanks for posting : ) I was a golf widow for a while until my husband tired of that and took up orienteering - then yoga. I wonder what’s coming next...

I know I said I would keep my thoughts to myself, so I'll keep it short.

I agree with one thing Zara says: “'I don't really suspect Aspen of being a spy right now though, I'm ~80% sure she's Resistance.' Based on what?"

I was 80% sure *you* were Resistance, Bela, until you threw that into your post.

I've voted YES for this team nonetheless. If this mission is sabotaged it will be very easy to determine *who* sabotaged it. (I'm assuming Sal is going to use his two cards here.) If it passes - which doesn't mean there's not a spy on the team - a new mission will start and team leadership will pass to Shell, who at this point is the only person I trust and the rest of you will probably believe if she confirms I'm Resistance - assuming she gets a card that will allow her to do so.

What I agree with Zara on is her question to Bela: Based on what?
