After years of anticipation, the Battery Boardwalk has finally opened its doors to the general public. The residents of Sleuthville come streaming in through the ticket booth--a line stretching as far as the eye can see. Among those gaining entry is a group of elite detectives with complimentary day passes to the attractions, invited specifically to keep an eye on things. A week prior to opening, the higher-ups at the Boardwalk had received anonymous threats of sabotage and murder if the Boardwalk was not torn down immediately. However, the proprietor was not one to submit to intimidation. Thus, on opening day, a group of highly-ranked detectives were tasked with keeping the park safe.

Unfortunately, there have been rumors floating around that some in the ranks of the elite had been approached by the mysterious threat-maker, and were now working for him to guarantee the day would end in disaster. It is said only those who turned to the dark side knew who the others were; everyone else had to eye each other with suspicion and make their own judgements. Although the team has been compromised, there is no time to vet and assemble another one on such short notice. Yet the day is young and there are plenty of opportunities to ensure opening day is a success.

The detectives’ job this fine day is to make the rounds of the park and keep an eye out for any suspicious or potentially dangerous activities. If opening day goes off without a hitch, the Boardwalk is sure to bring in millions, and the detectives would stand to receive a substantial cut for their services. But if it were to fail, then Sleuthville would be plunged into financial ruin and return to the days of never-ending guilty clients and exorbitant Shady fees. Oh no.

Will the Battery Boardwalk’s grand opening be an unparalleled success, or will it go down in flames accompanied by nothing but the screams of disappointed visitors? Stay tuned to find out in this installment of The Resistance.

The game takes place over a series of 5 "missions." The Resistance is trying to complete 3 missions successfully, while the spies are attempting to sabotage 3 missions. First one to 3 wins.

I will serve as game master. Once we get enough people to play (5-10 total), I will PM everyone their allegiance (either "Resistance" or "Spy"). If you are a "Spy," I will also PM you the names of your co-conspirators.

A "leader" will be chosen at random for the first mission. The leader has 2 important functions:
1) The leader will assign various "role" abilities to players. These are one-shot special powers a player can use to learn more information about someone.
2) The leader will assign players to the "team" for that mission.

Missions will have a varying number of players who are selected; the leader picks a team, then every player will vote on whether or not they approve the team by PMing me. Once all the votes are cast, I will post the voting results. If a majority approves the team, the mission starts. If not, the mission does not start, and the next player in line becomes the new "leader" for that round. This continues until either a mission is approved, or 5 consecutive mission teams are rejected (in which case the spies win automatically.)

Once a mission team is approved, those players will PM me their choice of action during that mission. Resistance players will ALWAYS choose to have the mission succeed by sending "Success," while spies have a choice: they can either elect to have the mission succeed (to throw off suspicion), or they can "Sabotage" the mission.

If any player on a team sabotages a mission, that mission fails! It only takes one "Sabotage" to fail a mission. This is generally true except for one mission where two sabotage votes are needed.

The mission team make-up and rules will be posted once we see how many players join.

Once the team members send me their actions, I will post the results of the mission. You will know if the mission succeeded or failed, and you will know what the actions were, but you will NOT know who chose what action; they will be revealed at random.

After the mission results, a new round starts with a new leader and so on and so forth until either 3 missions succeed or 3 missions fail.

The name of the game is information and MISinformation. The resistance is trying to figure out who the spies are, so that missions don't get sabotaged. The spies are trying everything they can to avoid detection, so that they can be chosen and sabotage missions.

You may talk about ANYTHING on the message boards involving the game. However, if information comes to you from me in a PM, it is YOUR CHOICE what to do with that information. You can keep it to yourself, you can be honest, or you can lie.

YOU MAY NOT PM OTHER PLAYERS ABOUT THE GAME! All discussion must take place here in the message board so that everyone is privy to it. Spies can NOT talk privately about strategy! The only PMs sent regarding the game should be to or from me, as the game master.

For this game, there will be a 24-hour deadline on voting. If a vote is not received during that time, the player’s vote will be excluded, and the results will be calculated based on votes which have already been received. It is in your best interest to vote, and to be on time.

Please post below if you would like to play in this game of Resistance. The game will start either as soon as all spots are filled, or after 24 hours have passed after the last signup (assuming the minimum is met).

We'll be starting this game with 5 people, most likely tomorrow afternoon. As most of you are new to this game, I have compiled a list of all previous Resistance games, which you're free to read up on for information/strategy purposes. :)

MISSION 1: Roller Coaster Catastrophe

As people mill around the boardwalk, the sun is shining and the air is filled with the sound of laughter and uplifted spirits. It is a promising start to the day. Zara wanders around the park, indulging in some extremely overpriced cotton candy, trying to convince herself she deserves a treat every now and then. As she approaches the roller coaster, there is a loud BOOM from overhead. Zara looks upward to see a blaze of orange in the sky. The people around her scream in terror as small fragments of wood come raining down upon them. Someone has blown off a section of the ride!

Zara drops what remains of her cotton candy, and it is trampled underfoot by fleeing people. She immediately bolts towards the ride. The roller coaster hasn’t stopped, and the riders’ screams of joy have turned into screams of terror. They are quickly approaching the destroyed section, mere seconds away from falling to their death if nothing is done. Zara sees another of the elite detectives nearby and signals for them to help. Together, the two dash towards the ride’s controls as fast as their legs will carry them. Will they make it on time?

Zara is the leader for Mission 1.

Mission 1 will consist of TWO team members.

The first team leader has been given one advantage to distribute to whomever she sees fit. It is:

OVERHEARD CONVERSATION: Owner of this card learns the allegiance of either the player above/below him/her on the player list via PM from the game master. (They player may share this information on the game board if they so wish, but are not required to tell the truth.)

Zara, please assign this ability when you’re ready. Keeping the ability for yourself is also acceptable.
