The New York Police Commissioner has just approved a daring, top secret mission to infiltrate the ranks of La Cosa Nostra and target none other than the fearsome Dona Isabella Santanelli herself. If all goes well, he can collect enough evidence against the Dona to put her away for life and severely cripple the lucrative crime operation.

The only catch? La Cosa Nostra has access to the NYPD’s detective base (no one knows how) and can identify any of their detectives on sight. Because of this, the Police Commissioner has to recruit from some lesser known faces- the private detectives and civilians walking the streets of New York.

Will the Police Commissioner be able to assemble his task force and infiltrate La Cosa Nostra without spy interference from LCN? Or is the mission doomed to fail, and the price fatally steep for all involved? Find out in this game of The Resistance!

(Taken from Serges’ original post)

In the forum version of "The Resistance", I will serve as game master. Once we get enough people to play (5-10 total), I will PM everyone their allegiance (either "Resistance" or "Spy"). If you are a "Spy", I will also PM you the names of your co-conspirators.

A "leader" will be chosen at random for the first mission. The leader has 2 important functions:
1) The leader will assign various "role" abilites to players. These are one-shot special powers a player can use to learn more information about someone.
2) The leader will assign players to the "team" for that mission.

Missions will have a varying number of players who are selected; the leader picks a team, then every player will vote on whether or not they approve the team by PMing me. Once all the votes are cast, I will post the voting results. If a majority approves the team, the mission starts. If not, the mission does not start, and the next player in line becomes the new "leader" for that round. This continues until either a mission is approved, or 5 mission teams are rejected (in which case the spies win automatically.)

Once a mission team is approved, those players will PM me their choice of action during that mission. Resistance players will ALWAYS choose to have the mission succeed by sending "Success", while spies have a choice: they can either elect to have the mission succeed (to throw off suspicion), or they can "Sabotage" the mission.
IF ANY PLAYER ON A TEAM SABOTAGES A MISSION, THAT MISSION FAILS! (it only takes one "Sabotage" to fail a mission.)

Once the team members send me their actions, I will post the results of the mission. You will know if the mission succeeded or failed, and you will know what the actions were, but you will NOT know who chose what action; they will be revealed at random.

After the mission results, a new round starts with a new leader and so on and so forth until either 3 missions succeed or 3 missions fail.

In each round, the leader (the one selected at the beginning of the round) will be given a number of "role" abilities to distribute to the players. These abilities all have something to do with information-gathering, and I will list a few examples below:

"Keeping a close eye on you": The player who receives this can use it to find out what a team member has picked as their action (success or sabotage) during the mission. This info will come as a PM from me.

"Opinion maker": For the rest of the game, the person who receives this must vote first on any mission plans, and must do so on the message board rather than in a PM.

"Strong leader": The player who gets this can choose to "usurp" leadership from the current leader, but only if the current leader hasn't assigned roles or chosen a team yet.

The name of the game is information and MISinformation. The resistance is trying to figure out who the spies are, so that missions don't get sabotages. The spies are trying everything they can to avoid detection, so that they can be chosen and sabotage missions.

You may talk about ANYTHING on the message boards involving the game. However, if information comes to you from me in a PM, it is YOUR CHOICE what to do with that information. You can keep it to yourself, you can be honest, or you can lie.
YOU MAY NOT PM OTHER PLAYERS ABOUT THE GAME! All discussion must take place here in the message board so that everyone is privy to it. Spies can NOT talk privately about strategy! The only PMs sent regarding the game should be to or from me, as the game master.

I am now looking for interested players... post below if you would like to be involved in "The Resistance"! We need 5-10 players to get a game going.

I'll play, possibly against my better judgement as it looks like the update will finally be rolling out in the next few days.

Remember our agreement, the one you clearly agreed to in the other thread.

Conclusions which, as it turns out, were absolutely bang on. I did stop suspecting you for a time though when Riza did not use her power to expose Molly or Sal.

Wait what update?

That update. Nothing exciting in terms of new content to play, but there'll be lots of new tools to use for solving regular cases. It was meant to be released sometime back, but for one reason or another hadn't quite made it off the shelf.

Heeeey, nifty! I love the new notes!

We have three players so far, I wonder if Riza will be playing again? I'll PM and ask.
