This is a variation on a theme of Francesca's "Who am I?" thread. The rules are the same, only in this case it would probably be best if we asked one question at a time :).
I'll start:
Its history goes back more than one thousand years.

lol - in an effort to save Pirate Kitty's bald spot, I'll dig down into whatever limited knowledge of South American geography might be lurking in the dustier reaches of my brain.
Penguins makes me think of Patagonia, but I thought that was in Argentina.
Or how about Tierra del Fuego? (am I making that up?)

YOU GOT IT!!!! It was TIERRA DEL FUEGO, the southermost point in the Americas (or so my geography teacher told me). Go grab a penguin and go dancing!! Pirate Kitty won't be joining you just yet; the college kids had a welcome back kegger and she brought a bunch of sailors home in true Pirate Kitty style. Not to mention, her bald spot needs to get some baby fuzz before i can let her out again. Have fun all! L

Sorry - I'm not around much at the moment as I have a house to decorate and another to pack. Anyone else want to step in?

In *deep breath* Asia, one of the Americas, Europe, Australia or Africa?
Is it a capital?
Is it known for a person who used to live in it, or for a monument (or something famous like that, natural or man-made)? Heck, is it known at all? :D
Is it land-locked (goes for the country, as well as for the city)?

I have a feeling that this one is going to be solved in no time.
It is in Asia, it isn't a capital, it is known for a famous (man-made) monument, and the city is landlocked, but the country isn't... Phew, I hope I haven't omitted anything :).

No, you haven't :) Is it in the Indian sub-continent? Is it an island (the country)?? Is it in India? China? Or Indonesia? Or Cambodia? Or...okay, I'm out of steam :) For now.
