Based on the LA Noir reference, you could listen to any cool and moody jazz and/or blues instrumental(or not) unless experimental, too progressive, too funky I suppose. I mean some of the classics.

I don't know much about it but here are some of the few that I think you could like:

Charlie Parker - All the Things You Are
Thelonius Monk - Round Midnight
Duke Ellington - Mood Indigo
Stan Getz - Autumn Leaves

I suggest Christina Aguilera's Back to Basics, it is a great mesh of old school jazz, modern pop and her amazing voice.

You should give it a check to:

Bohren & der Club of Gore (everything, but especially the Sunset Mission record).

The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble (a personal favorite for solving cases).

Underworld - Thing In A Book. A nice long song that helps me relax into Sleuthing mood, especially when up against a Nemesis AI case!
