It is rumored that the ornate palace gates of Shangri-La have finally been opened to the public for the first time in known history. The Prince is making his debut into the public eye with a brilliant gala hosted by the Prince himself: an exclusive invitation-only event attended only by the most prominent and affluent people from countries all over the world.

Some commoners have been invited to this rare event--but not as guests. The Prince's most trusted advisor has particularly collected special operatives to patrol the event: the world's brightest, swiftest, and most skilled. You will be entrusted with making sure that everything goes off without a hitch. But there are those who would rather see the event go down in flames, along with the Prince himself.

Five minutes before the event is scheduled to start, a report of a most alarming nature reaches the operatives' ears. There has been a breach in the ranks. Some spies have infiltrated the group! But since they have never seen each other's faces, there is no way to tell whose allegiance is true. The team has been compromised, but there is still a chance to save the evening.

The operatives' job this evening is to make sure the Prince's gala goes off without a hitch. If he is pleased at the end of the night, they will be rewarded handsomely. Sources say he is forgiving of small mishaps, but when pushed too far...

The Prince's reputation is at stake. Will his gala be a phenomenal success, or will it succumb to the sabotage of the spies? Stay tuned to find out in this installment of The Resistance.

There are 3 things I assume need to be "addressed": my card distribution, my team selection, and my vote.

As for my card distribution, you're right in that I went counter to my play last game. But here's how last game broke down. Eden and I were assured of each other from moment 1, and the entire game was about me and Eden vs. 4 spies, with 4 Resistance members in the dark. It wasn't "fun" to play that gambit for me, even though we won. And, if I remember right, people spent half the game calling THAT move suspicious. I didn't want to bite twice from the same poisoned apple, so to speak. So, I changed up the strategy a bit to have more somewhat knowledgeable people than less fully-knowledgeable people. I kept NO CONFIDENCE because that card almost buried us last game, and anyone else I gave it to had a 44% chance of being a spy. I had to ESTABLISH CONFIDENCE with someone whose allegiance I didn't know; choosing a new player to the game, who I've talked to plenty outside the game, was to try and discern allegiance through response. I could have kept OVERHEARD CONVERSATION for myself, and I STRONGLY considered it, but then I'd have kept 2 of the 3 cards, leading to undue suspicion and ruining credibility I'm going to need as the game progresses. Again, I picked someone (higher up the list) who hadn't played before, to start to suss out how the response would be worded.

Team Selection: At the time I put the team proposal up, Andi hadn't yet cleared my name. So, putting myself on the team would have been very risky, since Andi could have easily (assuming she's a spy) come out and accused me of the same. Better to go with other players than her and me at that point. So I had to pick 3 people out of a pool of 8. Molly was the next leader to propose, so getting some intel on her was important to the Resistance. Adam and Vulkie were the players involved in the OVERHEARD CONVERSATION, with Vulkie clearing Adam. So, they're either both Resistance (good), they're both spies (which puts them in a "spy chicken" scenario, possibly revealing both), or Adam is clean and Vulkie is a spy (and with Vulkie clearing Adam, it would be a bold and risky move for Vulkie to SABOTAGE mission 1.) Considering my other choices were people I knew absolutely nothing about, I thought it was the best move at the time. (As a side note Nicnic, I have played this game in RL dozens of times, and I do not remember the spies ever winning Mission 1. My logic, based on that evidence, is not as you put it "bull poop") :)

My vote: I voted NO on my own mission, because I really didn't want us to be committed to a proposal that had so many wild cards. Like everyone else, I wasn't on the team (yes, I know that was by choice) and we are really early in the game; we can afford a rejected proposal or 2 before we put our chips in on a mission team.

And as to why it took so long to respond to these concerns; I was out of the house until after midnight last night, taking Biggie to the airport and working. When I got home, I wanted to work on some side project stuff before I went to bed rather than spend the half hour to respond this verbosely.

Nic, I'm assuming that you're clean in this game, because for you to get into the details so much this early, it takes a desire to KNOW which a spy wouldn't necessarily need. Please afford me the same chance to prove myself.

"I had to ESTABLISH CONFIDENCE with someone whose allegiance I didn't know; choosing a new player to the game, who I've talked to plenty outside the game, was to try and discern allegiance through response."

Serges, you mentioned originally that you had to choose between Andiyana and Andrew Corelli for that card as they were the two other players new to the game. It seems a little odd to me that you didn't consider choosing me for that one. At the moment, with the conspiracy mill churning out the special evening edition, it looks *almost* like thus:

You, Vulkie, Andiyana and Kagome are all spies. You hand Vulkie OVERHEARD CONVERSATION knowing almost full well that the card will be used on me, as Vulkie has no interest of hearing that a fellow spy is a spy. That way, you have a legitimate reason for not including me in the decision for ESTABLISH CONFIDENCE. You hand that to Andiyana expecting that she will back you up as "resistance" being that she's a new player to the game and would be more likely to do so. THEN, you put Vulkie on the team with me and Molly. This means that Vulkie is free to sabotage, and potentially poison my reputation, along with molly and his own. But taking two resistance players out of consideration would be worth losing a spy to the same, especially if you are 1-0 up, which, as you said yourself happens very rarely.

On that basis, I will let this team go through. I'm confident that Nic is not a spy (having been in an agency with her, I know that she wouldn't be putting this much effort into finding out something she already knew), and since I have my preliminary "Spy team" it would seem churlish to turn down the mission due to Molly's involvement.

I'm now going to sit back in the corner and put my tin foil hat on.

Adam, Serges was honest about giving me a chance. I'm new to this game and I had no whatsoever intention to sabotage the mission. Furthermore, why the HELL would I have voted YES instead of a no? Simple reason - because I'm not a spy. I had immediately placed my "yes" vote towards Riza, plain because I knew you was a resistance member and I'm also one...

Let's just say, you're making a wrong mistake by accusing me of being a spy

Adam, you might be misunderstanding something I said earlier. I just looked back to confirm my own words. I didn't say I HAD to choose between Andi and Andrew; I said I had decided to go with one of those 2 for aforementioned reasons, and I chose Andi over Andrew (of those 2) because I don't really know Andrew to be able to compare in-game talk to out-of-game talk for lie-detection purposes.

I will not discount, however, that you have a reason to believe the possibility exists that Andi and I are both spies. To be fair though, anyone I chose to establish confidence to would be implicated as a potential spy no matter what. I don't know where her loyalties lie; all I know is that she was being truthful about my allegiance. It doesn't make her NOT a spy, so I'm reserving my judgment personally.

Am i missing something? Did andi post about Jay being resistance with her card and i didnt notice it? *reads back* Okay she says he's resistance but obviously she could be bending the truth there. Which WOULD implicate them both as spies. Adam im not sure if i believe Kagome is a spy, i was with you with Jay & Andi - and *maybe* Vulkie is a spy (i dont really know) But saying Kagome is a spy...Honestly this game has JUST started. Where did that one come from? For all i know Adam you might be the spy. Im highly suspicious of Jay and Andi. And Maybe Biggie too, shes being awfully quiet. Ill sit around and wait to see how things play out, but im 100% certain of myself, and due to molly's hamlessness and nic's spreadsheeting im sure theyre resistance too.

I didn't mean HAD specifically, despite saying it. What I mean is, you said you were choosing between them as they were new, yet you never considered me in that point. That is what I find suspicious.

And, unless you can find a good enough reason whey what I said couldn't happen, I stand by my decision.

Jason, I said I thought Kagome was a spy so when Serges gave OVERHEARD CONVERSATION to vulkie, he knew it would get used on me.

It's a little out there as a theory, but I don't see any big holes in it yet.

I think assuming anyone is anything based on past behavior is a risky assumption. I myself made a supreme effort to play the game the same way in both the last two games for exactly that reason. Nic is smart enough to know that if she didn't put the same amount of insanity into this game as the first, she'd be giving herself away in two seconds.

Jason I'm not sure why you pull my name into things. You know I just got back from visiting serges and kagome so when exactly would I have had time to post a lot? I think I've posted enough to know I'm thinking about things and trying to figure out what's going on. That's not at all inconsistent with the way I've played any other game. The fact that you'd so readily accuse me makes you a little suspect. Though I think well all shoot ourselves if you're a spy again haha.

Voting no to this mission again. I don't think nic or Molly have been even remotely cleared yet and since the only allegiance I know for sure is my own, I'm not taking the chance. I'd like to see how the votes fall again, because that tie basically told me nothing.
