Ages and ages and eons ago, I was Milady here. I decided to play again and couldn't get into that account, but found I had left this one - so here I am again.

I'm at the point that I stopped with my previous character: I can do Really Really Hard cases fairly well, but can get fouled up by not being to find all of the suspects (or motives, that was annoying). Going pass that, particularly without a second contact doesn't look like a pcnic.

I know the sensible thing to do is get Advanced Sweet Talking, but I'd rather not do the sensible thing all of the time (though even that can't exlain how I have Judge of Character. Sheesh - though mind you, heaven forbid I have basic Interrogation so I actually do use the skill). It is why I have advanced hair analysis though (I wish I had ponyed up the extra point for Thread. No one seems to drop hairs in my cases - the first day I got it, 1 out of 12 pieces of evidence was a hair.)

So, on the docket for my elusive 10 skill points:
Lockpicking
Hypotism (I'm already in their good books, so no worries on the political front)
Advanced Thread Analysis

Any suggestions? Arguments in favor of always doing the "right" thing?

And, I will fess up and admit that I'm exchanging gear as soon as I can - I had a suspect with a 94% chance of success clam on me.

Go for Advanced Sweet Talking. When that's settled, then go for Lock Picking. You don't need Hypnotism right now,it will be handy later on.

Well determine what you are having more trouble with and go for that one. If you find yourself having difficulty with suspects or townies clamming up on you, then I'd definitely go for a sweet talking or rule bending skills.

Its all just personal preference on the direction you want your character to go.

I guess in the light of day I should have rephrased my question: Advanced Sweeet Talking is definitely sensible, but would either Lockpicking or Hypnothism help my problem and be more interesting?

Here are your choices, pick what you see would most likely assist you:

Hypnotism:Gives suspects a chance to remember any other suspects with motives. The benefit of this is that you may end up asking less suspects about people with motives, therefore saving yourself questions from other suspects.(Remember to always check with the Fortune Teller whether your suspects are all revealed or not.)

Lock Picking:There are times when suspects are not home. This ability lets you break into their house, grab a sandwich, pet their cat,and check their diary for either motives or their alibi.Benefit is that it saves you a question.

Advanced Sweet Talking:This increases your likelihood of Sweet Talking even further. The benefit is that the chances of unclamming your suspect is greatly enchanced.

Go with Sweet Talking, the last thing you need is your killer completely clammed up on you...

It all depends on what you think is your problem.
If the problem is to solve harder cases, you need to go for the more booring... - but if you think that it will be more interesting to go for a skill that will make your cases even harder to solve, I would go for something like underworld connection or surveillance, skills that are good, but mainly on cases much harder than the ones you probably is able to solve now :-P

Thank you to you both :) I think I will go with Sweet Talking for now, but pick up one of the other two for my next set of points.

My dear Parelle
Just start a new character and enter the game. You only have very few xp points so actually you lose nothing. Isay so because you already seems to have 2 skills offering absolutely nothing to your character. Those are
-Judge of character (useless skill before 1-2 mio xp points)
-Interogation (totally useless skill for a charmy character)

Built a new one and spend your starting skill points wisely

Hand Writing Analysis
Hope it's okay for a relative newbie to jump in on this thread? There is some very helpful information here but could I ask someone to clarify a couple of things?

My detective is smart and charming. I have therefore purchased my skills according to these characteristics. Currently I have:

Handwriting Analysis
Advanced Sweet Talking
Advanced Rule Bending
Advanced Thread Analysis
Flirting

....plus 11 skill points to spend.

I still often have suspects clam up on me - even at an early stage. Is this because they will only respond to the mean approach ... interrogation etc? Should I therefore also be trying to acquire a 'tough' skill set alongside my 'sweet' one? Any advice appreciated as I don't want to waste precious skill points.

Oops - apologies. Don't know why 'Handwriting' appears at the top of above post!
