Sidekick Ethics

So I want to subscribe a second detective (and sign up for Sleuthaholics Anonymous because 12 cases just isn't enough), and just as I was about to do it, the sidekick coupon popped into my head. Of course this gives me two benefits: an extra case for my primary detective and a cheaper price for my second subscription. But it just feels wrong.

So it is ethical to give yourself a sidekick coupon?

The system doesn't allow it. It recognizes that you used the same computer/IP address to both send and then try to use the coupon. Although, I'm sure there are ways around it...

Ahhh...that makes sense. Thanks Ryan! I don't know how or have any desire to game the system, so if it's set up not to allow it, I'll shell out the full price. :)

One word is properly used for this : Cheat. xD. As Ryan says, the system will see "through" your little scheme and it won't let you use the coupon.

I fully respect Ben's decision to not allow sidekick coupons to be used for multiple subscriptions, but I think cheating is a little strong. If it was allowed, I don't think it would a bad thing to give subscribing players a little something extra and a break on the price if they want to contribute more to the community. That said, I will of course follow the rules and have already paid full price for my second detective.

Sorry, it's been tried before. (And yes, your point about already subbed players getting a bit of a break has also been pointed out also. Apologies for that too.)

No harm in asking though, Elizabeth!

It is evident from your posting here that you just wanted to know if the game was designed to allow this, since as you stated you would basically be sending it to yourself.

Obviously if you wanted to try and cheat the system you wouldn't have started this thread. :) :)

So glad you are enjoying Sleuth, and a very belated welcome!!

Personally I think if you send a gift sub to someone, and it's his or her first subscription, then the discount rate should apply and the sidekick should be awarded to the person as well.

Essentially you're helping the person to subscribe. Why should it matter who foots the bill?
