I suppose I can go first here, may as well keep the winning entry at the top.

The first day of my summer vacation, I woke up. Then I went downtown to look for a job. Then I hung out in front of The Owl and Walnut.

The second day of my summer vacation, I woke up. Then I went downtown to look for a job. Then I hung out in front of The Owl and Walnut.

The third day of my summer vacation, I woke up. Then I went downtown to look for a job. Then I hung out in front of The Owl and Walnut.

The fourth day of my summer vacation, I woke up. Then I went downtown to look for a job. Then I found a job. Keeping people from hanging out in front of The Owl and Walnut.

Makensie was visiting New York, as she was after something the OSS had.

She was sitting at Sami's restaurant, by a window that faced the street, having her morning coffee, and reading the newspaper.

As she was enjoying her coffee, and engrossed in a column in the newspaper, a young boy of probably 16 years old came up to her.

"Excuse me, ma'm?", he asked, shyly, but maturely.

Putting the newspaper down, and clasping her fingers together on top the table, she smiled.

"Yes, young man? What can I help you with? Are you lost? Do you need help?", she asked with concern.

Surprisingly, he responded in a very mature tone.

"Please, ma'm, I am not a small child"

He smiled, to assure her that he wasn't being a wise-guy, so she chuckles, and said, "No, no, I suppose you're not. What can I do for you?"

Satisfied that Makensie was giving him the time or day, he adjusted the notepad he was carrying in his arms, and sits down across from her.

"You don't mind, do you? That I occupy this seat across from you?", he says.

Makensie pushed her newspaper aside, and said, "Well, I guess I don't. You are already sitting, aren't you?"

He smiles, then chuckles.

The waitress was walking by, as Makensie puts her hand up to stop her.

"Excuse me. Could you please freshen my coffee up, and bring this young man whatever he likes"

The young boy, smiles at Makensie, thanks her politely, then orders a large glass of orange juice, and a piece of toast. Much less than she would think a boy of his age would order, but, that what his choice.

"You are quite polite for a....what is your age?", Makensie asked.

"16, ma'm", he replies.

"Please, quit calling me ma'm. You make me feel old. Makensie will be fine", she said, smiling.

Ok, Makensie. It is very nice to meet you", he said in response.

"....and you are?", she asked.

He put his notepad down on the table, adjusted the glasses on his face, and said, "My name is Cyrus Magglio"

He holds his arm out in front of him and shakes Makensie's hand.

One thing that Makensie always pays attention to is the grasp people have when shaking hands.

Her parents always told her, growing up, that when someone shook her hand, to always give a firm handshake. "You don't have to break their hand, but, give one good, firm shake. That shows the other person that you are a strong, confident woman" She always followed that advice.

Letting go of Cyrus's hand, Makensie smiles, and noticed that firm handshake in him. She had alot of respect for this young man.

The waitress comes back with their order, as they resumed their conversation.

Taking a sip of her coffee, she places the cup down on the table, and asks, "So, Cyrus, you haven't told me the reason you approached me"

"I am doing a little experiment at school. It is all apart of my quest to be a reporter, and the topic is "What I Did Last Summer" . I must collect a few responses to that, and turn them in to my teacher for her to approve"

"I see", said Makensie. "Why did you choose me?"

"You look approachable, and interesting", he simply stated.

"Approachable? That is a first", she said, with a small chuckle.

They sat in silence for a bit, as each enjoyed their breakfast, when Cyrus said, "Well, Makensie? What DID you do last summer?"

She stares out the window, and goes back to last summer, on her vacation.

***One year ago***

"This feels so nice, Frankie", Makensie said, looking at her fiance' with great love, as they sat on the beach, looking out over the ocean.

He returns her gaze with the same adoring eyes, and replies, "This DOES feel nice, doesn't it? Such amazing beauty around me. The Ocean, the blue sky, sounds of people laughing, having fun, the music in the distance...."

He looks back over the ocean, as she continues staring at him, with a playful gaze.

Looking back at her, he laughs, which was the most beautiful sound to her, and said, "I think I forgot something. YOU"

She smacks his arm, as he gets up, gathering Makensie in his arms, and said, "You, my love, are the most beautiful"

He kisses her, then drags her into the water, as they played, and laughed, splashing each other back and forth.

**Back to Present**

"That summer was the best ever. You see, the night before, he proposed to me over a candlelit dinner, under the stars", she was saying to Cyrus, with tears in her eyes.

Looking at her, very intent, and engrossed in her story, he asks, "Why the tears, Makensie? Wasn't that the most happiest time of your life?"

She dabbed her eyes with a napkin, and continued.

"Oh yes,it was. I live such a hectic life, and that summer was just complete bliss for me. We had an amazing summer together. After our vacation, we came back to London, which is where I live, and work, and we continued our life, as an engaged couple. We talked of our future together...how many children we would have, what their names would be.....it was a special time"

Cyrus said, "....and are you two still engaged? It sounds past tense"

She smiles softly, and stares out the window.

"We would've been, but, you see, a tragic event took him from me. He was killed in a car accident. Some say it wasn't an accident, but, it was listed as one", she said.

"....and you are ok with that? You aren't trying to see if that is what happened?", he asked, writing some notes on his paper.

Shaking her head, she said, "No. No I'm not. I don't want to ruin the good memories with such thoughts as that. It would just prolong my pain. I choose to live in the now, not in my past. I can't change what happened. Trying to find things that might not be there won't bring him back, so, I accept what happened, and now, here I am. Living my life"

"Way cool!", he said, then clearing his throat, he gathered his composure, and said, "Excuse me. I mean, that is very good that you are strong enough to do that. I am intrigued"

"My my, such big words for a young man, like you", Makensie said, with a smile.

He laughs , and said, "What can I say? I am growing up fast"

With a slight pause, as they took a drink of their beverage of choice, he asks, "Do anything wild last summer, Makensie?"

"I didn't know that was the topic of this story", she said, chuckling.

"This is off the record. You just seem to have some amazing stories behind those eyes", he said.

"You are quite the charmer, I see. Actually, I do have some wild stories, but, as mature as you are, you are still quite young to be hearing of such things", she said, taking a sip of her coffee.

"Ok, fine fine fine, you win! I really enjoyed listening to you. Most have the same thing to say, but, although, sad, such mystery in there too. Very nice. I enjoyed this. Thank you", he said, with excitement.

"You are quite welcome. Thank you for allowing me to tell that story. It isn't often that I speak parts of my life", she said.

He smiles, gathering his notes, and said, "I am sure you have many more tales to tell. Maybe another time, you would be willing to tell, should I have another Column up"

"Yes, perhaps", she said, with a friendly smile.

Cyrus Magglio thanked Makensie for her time, and with that, was off to the next person to interview.

The waitress walks up, smiles, and said, "The kid is quite the charmer, isn't he?"

"That he is", Makensie responded, paying her bill, and leaving a generous tip.

"See ya next time you're in New Yawk, Makensie Brewuh", the waitress said, in a heavy New York tone, at times.

"You got it", Makensie said, finishing her coffee.

Looking out the window again, watching the people walk by, she again thought back to last summer.

She left alot of things out, but that moment was what stuck out the most of that summer. The short time of being engaged to the most amazing man, and the fun they had together.

It was a summer of love, and hot, passionate romance. The wild, crazy times? Well, that's for another story, and might be too much for anyone to write about.

Chuckling at that thought, she grabbed her coat, and headed out onto the busy streets of New York, smiling at a young man who was hollering out,

"Getchur city news, right here! Step on up! City News! Getchur mornin' papuh!! Read all abouttit!!"

Full of summer memories, she weaved in and out of the people walking toward her, on their daily, busy hustle and bustle of life.

Way to immediately get yourself tossed out of the competetion Mak. Of course I know why you did it. After reading my entry you realized that you can't possibly win but you wanted to put something up and used that as an excuse for losing to me! ;-)

I challenge everyone out there to try and beat me, but this time try to stay within the rules! ;-)
